The Media And The State Are Now One

As we all know... the January unemployment rate rose as thousands more people left the job market than actually got a job in the month.

Yet we are told that this is good news:

After the American economy delivered more bad news today in the form of an increase in the unemployment rate and job growth that barely kept up with the increase in population, it took exactly 4.3476 seconds for the Washington Post's Ezra Klein and some flak for NBC News to jump before the "Morning Joe" cameras to assure Americans this was good news.

Apparently, the increase in the unemployment rate means the economy is so good, more people are joining the labor force ... except 169,000 people dropped out of the labor force and the economy isn't good; it collapsed over three points in the last quarter and shrunk 0.1.

The AP called today's news "upbeat, " you know, even though consumer confidence hit a two-year low. But still, people are optimistic and looking for work … in an economy where chronic unemployment hasn't been this bad since World War II.

But according to Ezra Klein that's because a government that increased spending during the last quarter of last year, actually decreased spending.
We all know that the unemployment rate would be 10.8% if the labor force participation rate was the same as in Jan. 2009. But the media is in full 'don't believe what you see... believe what I tell you.' mode. Seems these are the rules for the media:

    The Media's Top Five Rules:

    1. No matter which way the unemployment rate goes, Obama is The Sun King.

    2. No matter which way the GDP goes, Obama is The Sun King.

    3. Obama can do nothing wrong, Republicans can do nothing right.

    4. Squirrels are always bigger news than bad news for Obama.

    5. Shut up, racist.
As John goes on to say Poverty's up, middle class incomes are down, one-in-five are on food stamps, the GAO says the deficit is "unsustainable," and the only reason the unemployment rate isn't closer to 11% is because the labor force has shrunk to thirty-year lows since Obama took office.

The media and The (Obama) State are now one.

While they are still allowed... thoughts?

The media and the State have been one for a long time, most people either can't see it or refuse to...because it destroys their notions and beliefs about this country. Now the question is, who actually controls the media AND the State. Now that is where it gets scary.

I believe I was talking about stuff like this concerning the media during the 2012 Republican primary, but no one believed me.

The media is nothing more than propaganda...used to CREATE and GUIDE public opinion, not report public opinion as it should.

    Also, 2+2 = 5

Hard to imagine the media and state being one when Bush was in office. The media regularly excoriated him and his policies. Whether rightfully or wrongly, that's a separate topic / debate. The fact of the matter is that they did.

What isn't debatable is the present media being part of the Obama administration, i.e. the State. Nary a challenging question to the administration from the media.

Media being part of the State must be clear by now even among those of us that initially fought the idea.

Wonderful stuff. If the State truly controlled the Media, wouldn't the Fox crew, G. Beck, M. Savage, R. Limbaugh, the Focus on the Family, P. Robertson & on & on have gotten visits from SEAL Team whoever-was-available? Do these worthies feel threatened in the least - other than when posing for their inevitable & unending fund-raisers? Will we be treated to the spectacle of Beck & Limbaugh affecting a pinched & lean & hungry look, as if they were forced on a bread & water (straight from the tap? the horror, the horror!) as if they were back in the GULAG in the glory days the Rodina. Ah the Great Patriotic War - the closest these colossi of the trencher ever got was to consume their own weight in Beluga.

To my knowledge, GE still owns NBC outright, Disney owns ABC, CBS belongs to a credit card conglomerate. GE was famously agin any kind of unionizing, democratic processes, dabbled in war production - nuke power stations, & so on. Why would NBC then favor Prexy Obama or his admin? CNN is scraping to stay competitive - they dumped their science/technology dept. ages ago, & recently shuttered their investigative reporters - they're down to bubble-headed bleached blondes too - so what's the diff? With no pretensions to journalism, CNN is just another ratings- & money-hungry outlet for advertisers to mainline into consumers. That's what it's all about, neh?

Yah, the consolidation of TV stations (& radio) began under Prexy Reagan, when he permitted FCC to fall asleep @ the switch. Half-hour commercials - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, My Little Pony, Strawberry Shortcake - all aimed directly @ children - were OKed as entertainment. Ketchup was crowned a vegetable, trees were discovered to be unhuggable, & an astrologer was installed in the White House. Bonzo ruled!

Some time, some place this all makes perfect sense... just not here and now.

BTW: not to spoil your rant or anything... Comcast now owns 51% of NBC Universal.

All we are really talking about is market motivation here. Others have said this and they are all right, it is a niche market with many in competition here. FoxNews, CNN, NBC, ABC, half the internet based reporting sites, cable or otherwise, it does not matter. Sometimes we are talking about outright media manipulation of the truth, most of the time just selective reporting. FoxNews enjoys this just as much as The Huffington Post writers. It is happening with so much frequency the best option here now is to scan them all and form your own conclusion. Become as informed as possible instead of becoming the mindless drone the majority of our media wants you to be. There is a point to be made here about the right political party in power having general media support. We see it, we debate it all the time.

Re: The Media And The State Are Now One

Where is the improvement? Is the improvement coming from the same people who said that GDP is down, unemployment back on the rise, food stamp roll up to God only knows what now. Is this the democrat ways of improving? If the Democrats could do what they'd like to do? What the hell would they like to do, that they haven't done. God forbid they get the house back. The last time they had it, they passed a healthcare bill that none of them even took the time to read and now the IRS is coming out with saying that their "bronze" healthcare plan will cost a family of 4 to 5 up to $20,000 per year and we're supposed to be thankful that they intervened? I'm sorry but I for one, don't buy into government spending beyond their means is good for everyone and the economy. I will never be convinced of the idea, "if only we could spend more", in other words "take more of your money", we will get things fixed. Over the years, I have heard these same political arguments over and over and over. The arguments are the same, the spending is way more, and guess what. The poor are still poor, the homeless are still homeless, and the dumb are still dumb. Yet what do we hear, "well just imagine how it would be if we hadn't done anything". I can imagine things actually being better. Self sufficiency for the physically and mentally able far exceeds dependency for the unwilling. Socialism has never had a prosperous economy in any country in the world. I would love to see an example for those who think socialism works.

I got to hand it to the democrats. They do an excellent job selling the notion that common sense isn't applicable in their policies or economic reports. It really is amazing when you think about it. They have convinced people that having a smaller paycheck is good for the economy, constitution needs to be modernized, a shrinking GDP is actually not a bad thing, deficits and debt don't really matter anyway, global warming is going to destroy the world but can be avoided if you buy carbon credits, they will only tax the rich and not middle and lower class, unemployment is a boost to the economy, gun contol in necessary for society while quietly exempting themselves, and I'm sure I could keep going.

Ahem. Please note that Kirsten Powers is a Democratic Strategist, not a right winger.

“Alas, the president loves to whine about the media meanies at Fox News. To him, these are not people trying to do their jobs. No, they are out to get him. What other motive could a journalist have in holding a president accountable? Why oh why do Ed Henry and Chris Wallace insist on asking hard questions? Make them stop!”

Kirsten Powers: The WH war on Fox News continues « Hot Air
Oh yes. Make them stop! He’d much rather have the extreme fluff interviews such as 60 Minutes’ Steve Kroft interview all about Obama and Hillary’s relationship. Since when has political journalism descended into something akin to ‘Love Line’? Is this journalism holding the nation’s leadership accountable? Certainly not!

when reporters from other networks are bragging about giving a politician an easy ride, as CBS’ Steve Kroft did on CNN last night, well, it’s a bit difficult to tell who the real news outlets are without a scorecard.
    . . . .
Powers writes that this kind of immature gamesmanship should concern everyone:
Whether you are liberal or conservative, libertarian, moderate or politically agnostic, everyone should be concerned when leaders of our government believe they can intentionally try to delegitimize a news organization they don’t like.
That’s not to say that the Fox News Channel has been a bastion of unbridled objectivity. Of course not, but the same can be said about CNN, especially lately with Piers Morgan. And unlike MSNBC, both Fox and CNN have straight news programs that aren’t overly infected with partisan point-of-view issues. Fox’s White House correspondent Ed Henry has been a well-respected journalist for years, as was Major Garrett before him. And yet, lately, Ed Henry hasn’t been given the opportunity to ask questions on the rare occasions that Obama deigns to allow the press to pose them, even though FNC has the largest audience of all the cable-news networks.

Kirsten Powers: The WH war on Fox News continues « Hot Air
I most heartily agree with Kirsten on this one.

Kroft appears to be enamored by Obama and Hillary so much so that he couldn’t bring himself to ask a tough question?
