Re: The Ultimate in Hypocrisy::::::

This hits home particularly hard for me since this is the field I work in. Surviving in IT has become a matter of scrambling to find an area of expertise which is too new, too small, too unstable or requires too much customer interaction to outsource. Things have become extremely cutthroat. There is intense pressure to constantly redefine your skillset so that you will be "leveraged" and not "virtualized".

I walk a very thin line all the time. I live in a semi-rural location but I'm not forced to move to keep my job because I can support other sites remotely with only occasional physical visits. The tricky thing is that if my job can ever be done 100% remotely, off it goes to a foreign country.

I hear you loud and clear tim...I was an MIS for 6 years...I moved out of the field for this reason, I knew the future was bleak.

Yes it is bleak for most. I am fairly confident I'll be able to ride it out for the next 20 years or so but I believe the majority of pepole in my field willl have to find other work over that time.
Moving to IT management would offer more security but I've tried that and I just can't handle the bullshit that goes along with a management job. I was destined to be an "expert" because it allows me to do my work with a minimum of gladhanding and ass kissing.
