Tax the Auto Companies when they dont make fuel efficient cars

And Give tax breaks auto companies who build cars that get more than 50MPG. Like GM,Ford and Chrysler Pay more taxes towards CEOs unless they build fuel efficient standard cars.Thats how you make them build what the public wants. And Goverment Raise taxes on people who buy SUVs,Cadillacs, Pick Up trucks and RVs.

That would be...well stupid.
Auto companies make cars that people want.
If you want to tax someone - then tax the person buying it, I believe the auto companies are reeling enough the way it is.

My sentiments exactly, tho I was going to put it in a more constructive way -
Just raise the gasoline tax. Companies that make a lot of 'guzzlers' will get hit because demand for their vehicles will go down, and those that make hybrids and such will be able to charge a premium for their cars. The end result works out the same, without having to introduce new bureaucracies and regulations.

A tax on a business gets passed to the consumer. So, then end result of a efficency tax would be gas guzzlers cost more. Since they already do, and people still buy them, that doesnt solve the "problem." Face it, oil is here to stay until they make a fuel efficent vehicle with the capabilities of a real SUV.

Why 50? Why not 80?

Why not just ban oil? Why need MPG at all. It should be miles per solar inch.

Geez, I usually get hammered when I suggest a gas tax increase.
But it's a market based solution to the problem.
