Federal Goverment should give Cities $$$ on Public Transpotation projects
I agree on this. But Cities need to eliminate street city buses because of polution and build more subway lines,Light Rail and Monorails. Baltimore is one of those cities should improve this project.Right now Baltimore has only 1 subway line and 1 light rail line. It needs 8 subway lines and 3 light rail lines and Downtown business area needs monorails to connect Hotels, restaurants and Shopping centers.Like this is my idea Baltimore to have

Why dont the cities pay for it themselves? Why do I have to pay for Miami to have millions of people?

People who live in quite rural areas shouldn't have to pay to subsidize the lifestyle choices of people who live in congested urban areas (or vice-versa btw, there are also ongoing subsidies for utilities, mail service, etc. in rural areas which should stop). To the extent that government engage in ANY reallocation of costs and benefits it ought to be in the direction of increasing the linkage between costs being born by those who realize the benefits, not the other way around.

1. It all balances out, in which case nobody would be "hurt" by ending federal taxation and payment for these things and leaving them wholly to the state and local level. 2. It doesn't balance out, in which case somebody is unfairly being forced to subsidize the lifestyle choices of others. In either case, it argues AGAINST Federal intrusion.

Re: Federal Goverment should give Cities $$$ on Public Transpotation projects
For the most part, that is not how it works here, and its worked pretty well. Cities pay for their own roads, rural areas pay for their roads. When there are inter region roads, both parties pay. When there are lots of tourists, we have things called TOLL roads. This is the ultimate in focus. Only the people who directly use those roads, pay for it.

Perhaps it would be a good idea to pay roads by gasoline taxes only so gas becomes more expensive and it encourages more fuel efficient cars and the use of public transport.

Raising taxes on Gasoline for the purpose of building roads and better maintenance would be fine by me and it would have pigovian effect of encouraging more fuel efficiency. I am not sure if I agree that some should go to subsidize public transportation.
