Not all of us. Gas is at the price that it should be. No need to wait. Just accept it. We might even want to grateful that its a bit low.

I'll start writing Chevron a thank you letter.

Re: Gas Prices Tanking

Interesting chart in this WSJ article:

Refineries' Summer Break - WSJ.com

The refiner's margin is pushing $.80 per gallon. Gee, they're really struggling, aren't they?

I disagree. The gas company is really raking it in. Look into it.

Of course they are. People are buying a lot of gas. BUT, the oil companies are making the same amount per dollar of gas as they always did. And the govt is making twice as much. Where is the investigation into the govt record tax revenues from gas?

Not true. The refiners are increasing their profit margin per gallon DRASTICALLY.

Got some proof? Not that it would matter. They should be making as much profit as possible. Raise it until demand drops off. Thats good business.

Nothing in that excerpt says anything about refineries profit margins. Maybe its in the full article?

But whatever happened to helping your fellow men. I mean, do they really need all the money that they are making? IMO, they are majorly price gouging.

And as I explained the profit margins remain the same. So they cant be price gouging. Furthermore every single investigation has shown there is no price gouging. And it has nothing to do with our fellow man. The US isnt a charity. People want to be paid for their work.

It does. There's a graph showing the margin per gallon. The margin has increased dramatically in recent history, up to $.80/gallon.

I don't have my (wife's) WSJ login here, so I can't cut and paste.

So, youre saying that a refinery is making 80c per gallon of gas sold in profit? Thats unbelievable. In fact, its probably even untrue. Here is an explanation from the Energy Information Administration which shows thats just not the case.

Furthermore, why do we blast the oil companies when other industries are making higher profit margins, including pharmaceuticals and computers.
