Jiffy Lube is a ripoff!

I received a link to a video clip showing an investigative team getting ripped off at several Jiffy Lubes. The only time I've every used their services, they didn't tighten the oil plug and I ended up with a huge oil spot in my driveway.
I've had other companies try to rip me off but since I have a little knowledge about cars so I don't fall for their BS. (Goodyear tried to tell me I had a cracked block after my thermostat went out! I drove that Cadillac Deville for two more years!!!) It makes me wonder though, just how many people get ripped off because they lack basic knowledge of their vehicle.
The only place I trust now is Firestone because they've never once told me that I needed a service that I didn't need and since I have my car and truck serviced there, they know me by name. (I change the oil in my truck myself but my car sits so low to the ground that I have to jack it up and I've decided it's easier to take it to Firestone!)
Anyone have any ripoff stories?

BTW, here's the video clip:

Re: Jiffy Lube is a ripoff!

I've heard similar horror stories about Jiffy Lube before. However, I suspect this kind of stuff can be very dependent on your local branch, who was working that day, etc. I've heard the same kinds of stories about Firestone, btw, although not as much.

I used to change my own oil, but it's harder now because I don't even have a driveway. Plus, the hassle of bringing the waste oil somewhere for recycling adds to the inconvenience factor.

Thanks for reminding me that I need to get my oil changed.

I've never had a good experience with either Jiffy Lube or Merchants Tire & Auto. But, as Jefe said, it probably depends on the branch and who's working. I'm sure there are plenty of honest Jiffy Lubes out there.

I usually take my car (a Toyota) to a repair shop that specializes in Volvo and Saab repairs. Been going there for 3 years and those guys have always bent over backwards to help me out, always show me the old parts they removed and point out what was wrong with them. It seems to be a rare things these days when you can find a autoshop that you can actually trust.

Nothing has changed ! My son was told by the Mgr. of a service dept. that the job of the tech who greets you is to turn a $ 30.00 grease job into a
$ 300. dollar projuct if at all possible. Business as usual ! :-)

Okay, now that I'm done washing out my brain with soap for thinking such a thing...

Well, it is called Jiffy LUBE for a reason.

Tougher. I found a good wife almost 25 years ago. I've been through a dozen mechanics in that time.
