Re: California Food Rationing? No Surprise Here
First:
There is a thread about this already, (Ecconomy Section) and I don't see how it has anything to do with Party Politics or Election Campaigns... Second: It is not rationing by a state/government but by company policy... Who buys rice in 20 pound bags? Smart people who eat rice often and figure that a 20pound bag has a serious discount compared to 20x1 pound bags... (Asian families mainly I guess and all the others who enjoy a cup of rice everyday) I dunno, I think this news has little to do with the recession... it is rather a warning that the current global food crises that lead to uprisings in countries like Egypt and Haiti, does reach the US now... Anyways... Call it reccession, depression or slowdown... the US market created a bubble, the bubble poped and the global ecconomy is suffering as a result of this... it is obvious that the US ecconomy suffers most and this can't be denied... and the credit - crisis sickness will jump from one branch to another for the next few months and results in bad news on the way... SHOCKING NEWS: THE ECCONOMY IS GOING UP AND DOWN Now it's time for a down... self inflicted suffering... denying it won't help ![]() Over here it is going up right now... but the Credit crises and dollar weekness serious killes our growth now... |

Re: California Food Rationing? No Surprise Here
uhm , I live in Cali....and in the area where I have read and can attest to the rice rationing, gas is , for me at least because I have to use supreme, $4.25 a gallon.
The rice thing is a little iffy, that’s right, who really buys rice in 20 lb. increments? But yet they must have felt there was some type of shortage or one just down the road, and low and behold, the rice futures this morning are wayyyyy up. There is no water rationing unless we have a drought for a season or 2, its been several years since we have had one. Regards the California economy, we are a basket case living on very short increments of borrowed time....other than a revamping the state labor laws ala, disability and compensation Arnold has done squat to address the larger problem. We still have the 3rd or 4th highest marginal sate tax structure in the country, and of course we labor under what be the most onerous environmental statutes in the country, plus whatever dipshit can add on if he can, such as an added tax for pollution output, as in green house gases, like California Air Resources Boards (CARB) attempt at reducing carbon emissions by 2025 by 25%, that’s all well and good for him and the enviro. Folks, but biz has had enough. The catch of course is, you can continue to operatehere, but under much harsher regulatory FEES. Which is what this is really all about, the lowering of these missions, would have an effect somewhere in the 4 decimal point range of 1% of the earths atmosphere. So, well done, he chases manuf. plants and jobs out of the state and when the revenues fall, the bonds have their ratings dropped and all of the goodies we promised Calpers and CRTA ( the teachers union equivalent of calpers), due to bond debt servicing etc. there is squat left, except of course to find another way top squeeze money out of the taxpayer. I have 13 years to go till I can retire, and then bang, I am out of here so effing fast, my feet won’t hit the ground. In short he has, far from helping Cali. generate biz, or make it more it attractive to build and/or expand here, like Gray Davis but in a different way he has done what he did- forced Corps. to reduced capital spending here and has encouraged them to move on….which they are doing. Oh and there are several fairly large municipalities that have threatened to or are so very close to declaring bankruptcy its almost funny if it weren’t so pathetic… Here’s the first that will go under- Vallejo Bankruptcy - Economy * US * News * Story - MSNBC.com every municipality has virtually the same issues, and these places are all just a microcosm of the state, by any real measure of real fiduciary trust and accountability California should be bankrupt already….

Don’t’ blame you, when I can hit 80 and never look back, I’ll be a happier man in many respects.

Re: California Food Rationing? No Surprise Here
I can't say I've had either, but I've made red beans and rice (not sure if it was a Monday). Of course, being the food nerd that I am, I've got 5 or 6 different kinds of rice in the pantry.

Re: California Food Rationing? No Surprise Here
I am guilty of buying 40 lbs of rice, 40lbs of flour, and 20lbs of sugar in one massive trip. But as per usual I am generally the exception to the norm. But somehow still normal

Re: California Food Rationing? No Surprise Here
Well if I would have enough space to store it, I would buy those kind of amounts too...
btw: How much does a 20lb bag of cheap BUT eatable rice(japonica / milkrice) cost? I buy 1lb packs for 0.35 € => 20lbs for 7€ => aprox. $10 |

I thought I was pretty clear that this kind of thing goes on in California all of the time. It is not an indication of anything. This is just the way they do things there. The fact that it happens to be a blue state is part of it, and is a part of life living in a blue state, but like I said, it goes on all of the time. Most of the people in California are too broke to pay attention. They always think we're in a Recession. I lived there for 8 years. Why do you think I moved. Sorry if I'm the only person who noticed that the media is trying to sell their "Terrible Economy" schtick to us right now. I would call it "G#% D#@% FEAR TACTICS DURING AN ELECTION YEAR" but some folks think it isn't suspicious. If you're stupid enough to fall for this crap then drive-on Sparkey!!

Back in the 70s they tried to raise the price of sugar in a few weeks to twice it's regular price. We boycotted it for about a month. The price plummeted. That is the way to handle abusive prices on any product. Stop buying it. Try potatoes or even better discover Italian pasta dishes......my favorite. Yum.
