Tort Reform Discussion

Personally I think tort reform is bullshit. But what I find amazing is how people in the U.S. are more than happy support big businesses right to abuse civil liberties.

Re: Tort Reform Discussion

I didn't vote because most so-called tort reform is like so-called campaign finance reform. I support both, but only in fact, not by misnomer to disguise the real intent of some corrupt politician(s).

And any legislation with that as its primary result falls into the above-mentioned 'so-called' category.

Too often, people sue deep pockets seeking remedy for their own stupidity and/or entry in a sort of legal-system lottery. The most common solution put forth is 'loser pays'; this does have some merit, but needs to be tempered in cases of legitimate gripes that lose on a technicality or some such. All told, I consider 'loser pays' better than our current red carpet for nuisance suits, but something in between would be superior to either extreme.
