Re: Bailout fever- student loans

If the feds spend all their money bailing out deadbeat college students, where are they going to get the money for important things like helping Bear-Sterns and other investment banks? Show some responsibility people.

"Taxpayers will fork over $7 billion by 2012 to pay for the rate cuts."

That's ridiculous. We can fight the war in Iraq for nearly 10 days on that kind of money.

Actually about 35 days, but point taken.

Re: Bailout fever- student loans

The numbers I saw showed $720,000,000 per day, but I'm glad to know the war isn't nearly as expensive as I thought.

Re: Bailout fever- student loans

Through 09-30-08 war costs are $11.66B/month ($700B). This doesn't include the current request for supplementary funding, VA expenditures or interest service on the deficit spending used for funding:

http://www.fas.org/sgp/crs/natsec/RL33110.pdf

Of that total 74% is Iraq war expense, $8.63B/mo. The congressional report is derived from DoD accounting, which is identified as being as sloppy as it gets, so the exact breakdown specifics will probably never be known.

It depends on which numbers you choose.

Still even if it's only 10 days that sounds like a lot better use for the money than educating a bunch of snot nosed teens who wouldn't know a work ethic if it bit them on the butt.

Re: Bailout fever- student loans

Im sure youll get some argument on that, but the point it correct. The govt shouldnt be bailing out the loan companies. Let them fail.

A highly unlikely scenario. Had you completed the FAFSA the government makes it pretty clear what you're eligible for.
