Re: Exxon gets a break

Sounds like the right decision to me. Exxon spent billions to clean it up, and will probably continue spending more. They are being required to pay 500 million to individuals. How much profit they have has little relavence to the punishment they should get for a rare accident.

So they say that the possibility seems very real, but then admit that it would be very difficult to test for.

Should we be willing to fine Exxon into oblivion on the possibility that something might happen?

Not all of the oil was cleaned up like so many say.

People lost money for years because of what Exxon did, yet Exxon now pays those people a few pennies for the lost income.

Re: Exxon gets a break

On the Plus side Exxon made money with the Court rulling. When the first rulling came down on the 5 billion they had to put that money aside, then 17 years later they are told that they pay out 500 mil, they made in the neighborhood of 3 billion on interest over the years that it was in the court system.. so yes they did good and the stock holders did very good.

this was punative damage, not actual. actual damages were already paid.
Except for the herring fishermen that can't return to work. And, of course, the "clean up" was far from complete.

Maybe your failure to understand economics is a result of your inability to perform basic mathematics?

$15,000 x 100 pennies per dollar = 1,500,000 pennies.

Re: Exxon gets a break

Oh and by the way the 15k is not for every one of the Over 32,000 plaintiffs some will get more and some will get less.... much less as they where like a cannery worker that lost some....
Media reports make it look like every one will get the same, but that is not true...
