Re: How Secure Is Your Job?
I'm an artsy, so I look at instability and uncertainty as something I can count on and be quite certain about. Self reliance was always a big deal for me through my life, so I've refused to be one of those "starving artists" who think that regular work is beneath them or something.
To give a snapshot of the last 6 months to you, I've been in two short films, one Shakespeare play, dome some singing work, have worked two different restaurant jobs(one as an expeditor, the other a fine dining server), have taught acting and tutored writing, been a part-time tour guide, and have worked on a community farm outfit. I like variety and people anyway, so it suits me just fine. I'm the only one in the entire family that operates this way. Like a bohemian. I think it might have something to do with the fact that I was brought up in a very sort of regimented life, and it continued even in school and college, where I sort of used to get that "staring at the clock" feeling because of the "have to" of it all. I just felt like there was something else out there. And there really was! |

Re: How Secure Is Your Job?
Some early popes were martyred within a few weeks of their election.
Popes can be declared anti-popes. Benedict IX was elected pope three times.(1032-1044) followed by Silvester III, (1045) followed by Gregory VI, then Clement II, and finally (1047-1048). Of course, that was during the middle ages, and the job security has increased since then. Maybe not that much, John Paul I only lasted 33 days in 1978.

Re: How Secure Is Your Job?
Yeah. It's about the same as freelance writing I guess.

Re: How Secure Is Your Job?
I know a lot of people who make their living with their cameras. Most of them around here are wedding photographers. That's just way too stressful for me.
I do, primarily, concert photography. While it can pay well, those good paying gigs are few and far between, and I don't know anyone who makes a living doing only that. Last September, I was paid $600.00 to shoot The Temptations for ten minutes, and then to shoot some casual backstage and hospitality room stuff. If I could pull a gig like that three or four times a week, I think I'd have to give up the day job... |

Good for your mom though! Too many doctors (and nurses for that matter) get away with making stupid judgment calls and there's just too few attorneys willing to take malpractice suits. I had to get one in New Orleans because most of the ones in my city are tied to the hospital in one way or another. I'm sure with a nursing background, it made your mom a much better medical lawyer than most.

Re: How Secure Is Your Job?
Not possible. We would just get a new job.
