When will the idiots running this country from washington realize COMPANIES will not hire people until they are assured they wont have to pay excessive TAXES for HealthCare and such. this is why thgere are soooo many PT jobs or "seasonal" jobs available. You dont have to give them benefits, and can fire them easily.

Small business owners like myslef are AFRAID to hire, because we know a nice big tax bill is going to be coming and we need to save money.

The report is evidence that the worst recession since the 1930s is still inflicting widespread pain and underscores one of the biggest threats to the nascent economic recovery: that consumers, worried about job losses and stagnant wages, will restrain spending. Consumer spending accounts for about 70 percent of the nation's economy.

The Labor Department said Friday that the economy lost a net total of 263,000 jobs last month, from a downwardly revised 201,000 in August. That's worse than Wall Street economists' expectations of 180,000 job losses, according to a survey by Thomson Reuters.

The unemployment rate rose from 9.7 percent in August, matching expectations.

"The labor market is still going backwards," economist Joel Naroff, president of Naroff Economic Advisors, wrote in a note to clients.

The report also points to an uneven economic rebound, analysts said.

"We remain convinced that we are in the early stages of an economic recovery," said Michelle Meyer, an economist at Barclays Capital. But today's report "suggests the recovery will be bumpy in the beginning."

If laid-off workers who have settled for part-time work or have given up looking for new jobs are included, the unemployment rate rose to 17 percent, the highest on records dating from 1994.......

There is a surreal atmosphere right now. The Obama administration and the Dems in congress are obsessed to the point of hysteria with one topic: health care.

We are in the midst of the worst recession in eighty years and we have one party with an absolute hold on power - and they are doing nothing at all to address the economy. Their single-minded obsession with health care seems bizarre at this point. It is an important subject but this fanatical attention to one subject at a time when unemployment keeps rising is a case of denial of reality taken very, very far.

Another surreal moment: the juxtaposition of headlines this morning. We have the miserable job numbers - and we have the Obamas cheerleading for the Olympics in Chicago.

The Democrats need someone to give them a massive wake-up call. Reality is waiting.

I have a theory Obama and the liberals are trying to destroy our economy on purpose in order to declare a state of emergency so the Messiah can declare him self president of the US indefinitely and start from scratch with a new economic philosophy - Marxism.

Thus far all evidence points to my theory being correct.

Lets also not forget the already increased taxes on business which makes it even harder for these companies to hire people.

Look,we all know and Obama has said we will see 10% unemployment. Far be it from me to defend him but frankly we knew we are going to get there so this 1/10th rise is well, anti-climactic.

Congress holds the purse strings all he can do is veto, yes we know all of the past 8 months history etc etc. Frankly he is ideologically simpatico with Nancy and Harry and the farther left, I don’t think that’s any kind of secret anymore. So the beat downs are tired ( though I will admit everytime the local news puts on a blurb about how we are turning a corner I want to scream shut the fuc up).

He should be preparing himself for what happens when it hits 10%, its just another number, its not 9.9 or 10.1, but is a threshold, or benchmark we have created that imports greater concern than its worth alone. None the less, when it does hit 10, he and the dems are gonna lose I’d say 2-3 points on that issue alone, period. At this rate it may be in March. Frankly the closer to the mid terms the worse for them.

I do however think he may not be setting a very good example as to working on the have to haves as opposed to the want to haves. I mean did he and Michelle really need to fly to Copenhagen on separate aircraft so they could accommodate their entourages ( to say nothing of the carbon footprint)? That’s dumb. Illinois is broke and in the red, Chicago too. Do they really need to spend 500 million dollars on the Olympics right now?

Obama should be doing everything in his power to make the hiring of Americans easier for business owners rather then make it more difficult.

The government is doing everything it can to employ people them selves and expand government. The liberal government has no interest in helping the free market grow jobs.

Yes its not surprizing that its gone up, its well known that it will continue to, but the worse than expected numbers do matter. It all goes to show its to be a "U" shaped recovery with a very wide base part of that "U".

That really puts the whammy on his massive spending proposals that rely on what was always very very rosy projections. Ergo the current push to get health paseed ASAP before even the fringe dems cant risk it politiccally.

Of course anyone with their eyes open knew this eas going to happen and that we'll be seeing things turn south again before they ever hope to get better. Got an interesting comment from one of the property management groups I invest in and they said that the big banks are out of business and teetering on bankruptcy despite everything.
