Re: November: New Home Sales Sink 11 Percent

Please provide a more descriptive thread title next time. I've gone ahead and changed it, since "didn't this bite us in the ass before?" has to do with your comments on the topic and not the topic itself.

Thread title = topic of discussion.

Thread title ≠ your thoughts on the topic of discussion.

Re: November: New Home Sales Sink 11 Percent

the very next sentence:

Quote:
Despite the poor showing from new home buyers, the housing market has been recovering from the worst downturn in decades, largely due to a massive infusion of federal assistance. New home sales are up 8 percent from the bottom in January but 74 percent below the peak in July 2005. Compared with November last year, sales were off 9 percent.
all this means is that the government is going to need to continue its support for awhile longer.

the topic I chose to bring up was about the Fed taking up the mantle of validatng toxic assets by purchasing them.

had I wished to focus on more dismal economic news I would have.

If by saying "awhile longer", you mean, "indefinitely until the system implodes", then I concur wholeheartedly.

Re: November: New Home Sales Sink 11 Percent

from the article linked:
Quote:
The 11 percent slump from October's pace shows that consumers are taking their time following an extension of a deadline for first-time buyers to qualify for a tax credit.
Yeah, sure that's it. Couldn't possibly be the 10% unemployment rate drastically shrinking the pool of people who could possibly buy a new home.

I have no problem changing the thread title to something more fitting if you want to provide me with an alternative.

The problem, of course, is that temporarily fixing every economic problem by printing massive amounts of fiat money creates an even larger economic problem: the destruction of the fiat currency. Only time will tell whether this is the ultimate death spiral for the dollar, or whether someone can pull another Volkeresque save out of their ass.
