    They chose to fail.

Watching the tube the last couple of days, what has come to light is quite disturbing. I have seen what I'm about to relate on several MSM oulets, so bitches, don't cry FOX. The last version I saw was this AM on MSNBC.............so WTF am I talking about?

The Obama admin and congress knew what they needed to do to save the govt's AAA rating going in............why? Because S&P told the dumbasses, yet they FAILED to make the appropriate move. Well folks, we now have one for the history books, and on Obama's watch. Change he promised and change he delivered.......change from AAA to AA+. And congress as a whole is just as guilty...........the markets are sliding, the dollar has dropped (even further)
They made the bed, and now we have to lie in it.
Take a good hard look, it's coming.

    Some people never learn!

Did you read that S& P report, or do you just listen to Fox News propaganda?

What is really very sad, is that, if one read the S&P report carefully, for understanding, rather than to try to find political "ammunitions," it is clear that that divide between the right and the left, the ugliness of our politics, the partisanship coming first and foremost before our national interest and our reason is exactly what destroyed the world's confidence in our ability to pay our debts, to find BALANCED solutions to our deficit.

Our deficit is not bigger as a percentage of our GDP than many other nations who have kept their AAA ratings. . .because they demonstrated the will to work together, across party lines, to fix their problems.

So, there is a HUGE price to pay for all those mindless insults and canned propaganda. And we are just starting to pay it!

Why don't you try and tell that to the worthless little prick you put in the White House?

You know... the guy that after negotiating with the other side allegedly to reach a compromise, goes straight out into the Rose Garden and demonizes them in the press.

So don't go foaming at the mouth about name calling... the "leader" of your party is "leading" us right down that path.

I didn't expect any less from you Tsquare: The perfect exemple of what the S& P was referring to. Nothing but hateful partisanship ignorance. Much more concerned about "partisanship" than the wellbeing of our country.

If you read my post for understanding instead of hate, you would notice that I purposely stayed away from pointing my finger at anyone.

However, I do realize that a guilty conscience will automatically take any suggestion that things could have been different as an attack on their own idea and will blindly strike, trying to deflect the blame they know is theirs to any place away from them.

Thank you for that wonderful display!

    Wow.

Do you actually think that the last two months - as opposed to the last 50 years - is what got us to this point?

    YES!
Obviously the last 2 months didn't get us into the deficit. That has been going on for a very long time, and not only in America.

The fact is that the reason we have been downgraded is only partially because of the deficit (as I said, many countries who are keeping their AAA ratings, and some who have the same AA+ rating as we do now have greater ratio of debt to GDP than we do), but it is the completely ridiculous and dysfunctional display of partisanship and the complete refusal to attack the problem from both sides: The spending cut side. . . which we did (somewhat. . .and this will cause our economy to shut down even more because it will affect the demand for products) do AND the revenue side (which we. . .for obvious reasons. . .not do).

So, while the problem of increased deficit has been brewing at least since 2001, it is not the ONLY, maybe not even the main cause of today's situation!

Except we have the context from many of your other posts for us to know where you place the majority of the blame.

I obviously have my own opinion. Yet I try, especially after this downgrade which clearly is in great part the result of merciless partisanship, to moderate my feelings, and to curb my tendency to assign blame based only on part of the fact that "serves my ideology best," and to look at the whole picture.

You might want to try it for a couple of days!

Your calls for civility rings hollow when the leader of your party acts as he does.

Now I know that you are only tweaking me here, but I see no reason to change my views when you cannot even acknowledge the failure on your side.

    Why bother?

I'm not "tweaking you." You're doing that to yourself.

And. . .If you read my post again. . .did I assign blame solely to one side?

There has been enough failure to go around. And I am trying very hard to not spell it out.

Now, why don't we stop meeting this way? We both know we won't agree on this. So if you expect me to either agree with you, or to attack your side. . . it won't happen, so we would go on with silly little posts for ever.

And that's not constructive or interesting for anyone!

Yeah, they told them the opinion of some S&P folks who got the math wrong by $2 trillion. When others told them they got the math wrong their opinion didn't change because $2 trillion didn't matter.

The S&P rating is based on a gut feeling by probably one dude, maybe a group of dudes. It is ridiculous to have the economy hinge on such a rating that is by and large made up.
