Unions are no longer relevant in the US economy as laws governing labor are codified. The problem with some wages going down is directly attributed to the policies which cause downward swings in the business cycles. When business cycles are down there is enough competition within the labor market to pay lower wages but that changes as the business cycle swings up. Most businesses want to keep their trained competent employees and will pay the price. Though it happens or rare occasions, few employers will do a hatchet job on good employees in order to drive the cost of labor down.
You seem to champion a conspiracy theory about "they" or "them" or some vague group out there trying to drive wages down. That is hokum. Surely business doesn't want to pay more than they have to for labor, but your conspiracy theory is baloney.

Some facts on H1B. Of course green cards (permanent resident) will effect the stay and applications for citizenship after 5 years of residency. Considering the numbers involved and field directed emphasis ,,, its a definite influence on employment saturation.
Let's not fix the illegals immigrant issue or the "Americans have no skills" visa, let's move to an isolated part of the country.
That, my friend, is just plain lazy.
Clinton and Bush didn't screw you. For all practical purposes you screwed yourself and will continue to do so as long as you keep that victim attitude.

You actually believe my victim attitude has come across on my resume since 2004?
I know you're not stupid enough to think that.

My mentality is, you make your own breaks. It is time to get up off your duff, display a little optimistic attitude and get some training which will justify someone hiring you in a good job, and if you get it, don't make it an 8 to 5 and run type of work ethic.

Honestly, now that I know the truth I will use the next bubble to start a new career.
The problem is that from 2004 till now the BLS is still touting what a great career IT is.
Well, not a problem for me anymore since I know the truth.
And yet I still see a north east inundated with American replacements for virtually every career.
I may well have to move eventually

Ever thought of changing fields? I started as an office clerk, then a wholesale salesman, then insurance. Got into electronics and went back to college and got a Business Management BS then 9 years later to grad school and got a MS and Ed.S is Psychology and counseling. I did what it took to stay ahead of the job cutters. The only thing that stopped me was a massive heart attack then a few years later a silent heart attack and then I had to stop because I couldn't be as physically active as sitting in an office talking to clients.

Wow! Sympathies for the heart attack.
I have to learn to be more like my son who is an excellent wheeler dealer.
I have a lot of friends who are good back-office like myself but are kind of too honest to deal with vendors and customers.
The Psych stuff has always intrigued me.

I've got a relative in Buffalo who's a Real Estate Attorney making a fortune; so what?
I've got a relative in NYC who's a Real Estate Broker making a fortune; so what?
I've got a relative on one of the big three cable news shows making a fortune; so what? (Yeah, you know his name)
The average salary of a Google CSR, which requires a PhD, is.....$18.00/hour; so what?

Maybe NYS IS allowing Accountants to get screwed left and right and making exceptions.
Maybe NYS IS allowing Attorneys to get screwed left and right and making exceptions.
Maybe NYS IS allowing Physicians to get screwed left and right and making exceptions.
Not everybody can afford to move, and anyway, that's the lazy way out of fixing what's messed up about our nation.

Most people never even heard the word H1-B and they're replacing us left and right.

And I'm sure everybody in Texas is wallowing in cash.
Maybe Texas should secede.
Looks like NYS is a terrible place to live based on what you are saying. You have to make your own breaks, no one will do it for you.

I don't believe you are capable of eliminating your victim attitude, even in a resume. You cause most of your own bad "luck".

That's funny!
You know what we used to do on Dice?
We e-mailed our resumes from different e-mail addresses with Indian names and got calls.
We e-mailed our resumes from different e-mail addresses with our American names and got no calls.

By the time I realized my career was dead the crash occurred and I couldn't get a business loan.
But by Tara's name, next Time!
