Re: Polar Bears and the denial of Global Warming

Just a side note...why would incredible amounts of precipitation falling on Denver negate global warming?

A failure to grasp the difference between weather and climate, I suppose.

Re: Polar Bears and the denial of Global Warming

Anyone who doubts changing and absurd weather patterns, only need to look at what occurred in Australia over Christmas. It's the middle of summer here, and on Christmas Day the residents of Melbourne had their first white Christmas in history. Yup, in the middle of summer, when the temperatures average in the low 30s (Celsius) in that city in December, it snowed. I don't mean a little bit, I mean streets turned white and needed ploughing snow. In my home city of Brisbane, which is in the state of Queensland (known as the Sunshine State as we have pretty much year 'round sunshine), Christmas Day was a scorcher in the high 30s Celsius (which was actually quite a few degrees lower than it has been in past years, and one of the "coolest" Christmases in a long time), yet the very next day I was walking around my apartment wearing a jumper, track pants and socks, and it was bloody cold.

But remember, there is no global warming......

Happy New Year, Pogo.

I think you might be right.

Florida is experiencing temperatures in the mid 80's which is very warm for this time of year. That's just weather.

I never claimed that it did.

Huge Arctic ice break discovered
29 December 2006

Ellesmere island is about 800km (500 miles) from the North Pole

Scientists have discovered that an enormous ice shelf broke off an island in the Canadian Arctic last year, in what could be sign of global warming The chunk of ice bigger than Manhattan could wreak havoc if it moves into oil drilling regions and shipping lanes next summer, scientists warned. For something that large to move that quickly is quite amazing.

Re: Polar Bears and the denial of Global Warming

I continue to be amazed at how Kinetic can consistently come out on the wrong side of every single issue. I can only conclude, having viewed the enormity of his work spread over the entirety of this board, that Kinetic is really just a "devil's advocate." Kinetic, you don't have to fess up publicly, but please email me to let me know that I am correct. There is no way a person could truly be so abysmally ignorant of most things. . .I refuse to believe such a thing about a fellow human.

I am not wrong on the issue of human caused Climate Crisis and Global Justice. How am I wrong? Do you always insult those who you are critical of?

Our View -- U.S. must act on global warming
The Free Press
January 01, 2007

During arguments before the U.S. Supreme Court recently on whether to require the EPA to regulate greenhouse-gas emissions, Justice Antonin Scalia stated, “You have to show that harm is imminent.” Well, perhaps an ancient ice shelf the size of 11,000 football fields breaking off Ellesmere Island might be an indicator. The collapse of the ice island's northern coast in the Canadian Arctic was at a speed and size that startled scientists.

Re: Polar Bears and the denial of Global Warming

Wait, Kinetic, are you saying that you think global warming IS a problem and that it is human caused/accelerated?

And RW is an authority on this subject isn't he ? Yeah, like the inventor of the internet al bore. He's ALSO an authority on the THEORY of global warming being caused by human activities.

*hyperventilating*

"The oceans will be boiling soon if we keep driving those cars."

Lets ignore the fact that the planet goes through it's own phases of warming and cooling having to do with many many variables, many of which we are unaware of.

We seem to like to think that we little, nearly insignificant humans with our little "goings ons" have such HUGE impacts on gigantic systems.

One things is certain, we're arrogant as hell

Global warming is good for the northern states in America. I never denied that the earth is heating and cooling throughout history.

What I am in serious doubt over is whether humans cause it all and if humans can actually control it. There are many reasons to disagree. For one, the Arctic Ocean was once a balmy 74º. Maybe it's going back to it's original state?

I disagree with the Conservatives.

Conservation Groups Advance Protections for Polar Bear from Global Warming

WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, Dec. 28 -/E-Wire/-- The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFandWS) is expected to confirm they have formally proposed to list the Polar Bear as "threatened" with extinction under the Endangered Species Act due to Arctic ice melt from global warming. This follows a multi-year court battle by groups to protect the bear from the impacts of global warming in the Arctic, including the rapid disappearance of the Polar Bear's sea-ice habitat.

"This is a victory for the Polar Bear, and all wildlife threatened by global warming," said Kassie Siegel of the Center for Biological Diversity (Center), one of the plaintiffs in the suit.

"This is a watershed decision in the way this country addresses global warming. There is still time to save Polar Bears but we must reduce greenhouse gas pollution immediately."
