Green Agenda at World Economic Forum

... or at least thats whats being reported.

In actual fact, the forum will be discussing wide ranging issues, and the most important issue is stalled trade talks....but amid delays due to wild and unusual weather, and green hills where there is usually snow ... climate change is firmly placed on the agenda.

Incidentally, there are some at the forum who have argued that the Stern report was over dramatic in emphasising the environmental impact, and underestimated the economic costs. Still, it seems nobody is arguing that it isn't an issue ... the argument is about what needs to be done.

I guess when I read articles like this - with heading and lead paragraphs presented in this way - I can understand the frustration people have with being wacked in the face with this environmental issues ... but it still doesn't mean we can afford to ignore it.

Green agenda for global leaders
Climate change, the rise of Asia and the next web revolution will dominate the agenda when the World Economic Forum starts on Wednesday in Davos.

The five-day talking shop in the Swiss Alps brings together business leaders, politicians and campaigners, among them Bill Gates, Tony Blair and Bono.

More than 30 trade ministers will meet on the sidelines in the hope of reviving stalled global trade talks.

Davos attracts 2,400 participants from 90 countries.

They will discuss the geopolitical changes that have resulted in an "increasingly schizophrenic world" that is "harder and harder to understand", said the forum's founder Professor Klaus Schwab.

Participants can expect a daily reminder of what global warming could mean: usually the Davos valley is buried under a metre or two of snow at this time of year, but until Tuesday the mild winter left the hills mostly green.

Nothing like a bunch of politicians and celebrities jetting in from all over the world, riding their limos the three blocks from their hotel rooms to the convention center, drinking water from their plastic bottles, eating lunches made with preservatives and/or grown with fertilizers, then riding back to their hotels, kicking off their rubber soled shoes to enjoy their hotel's lush carpeting, popping in their favorite CD, and furiously pounding out on their computers their latist diatribe how we need to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels.

Thank God we have someone looking out for us.

Your right. We all need to change our personal life styles as well.

While I haven't done every single thing possible I have taken several measures. If somebody donates to charity shouldn't they get credit for it rather than blame for not giving everything they have? I drive a Honda Civic which is a ULEV (Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle). I make sure I always turn off my computer when not using it rather than just leaving it on. I plan on buying a hybrid for my next vehicle. I now buy all energy saving appliances, light bulbs, etc...

As you can see I have taken steps to reduce the emission that are put out. That is what is being asked for the rest of the country. I never said we should just shut down the economy and ban all use of petroleum, coal, natural gas, or other forms of emissions and I can't name a main stream politician who has.
