Re: children and humans bad for planet

People are not bad for the planet, civilization is. Humans lived in balance with their surroundings for thousands and thousands of years without doing permanent damage, we still can. It is the way we have treated the planet for the last 10 000 years or so that is the problem.

Agreed.
Nearly every problem one can think of is a result of overpopulation.

I agree, we have polluted and poisoned "the hand that feeds us" for far to long.

I agree as well.

More people means more stress on the planet and on each other.

Of course the educated affluent people of the world understand this, while the poor, uneducated people keep popping out little miracles to feed.

I agree as well. If we can't stop population growth, we better start educating people to take better care of the earth and to support only the businesses that do.

Our treatment of the planet gave us wealth, more satisfaction and a rising expectancy of life.
I`m glad, that our ancestors take more care about the human needs, than the staus quo of nature.

The Malthusians fears about overpopulation didn`t come true, because the rise of food-production was in the last 100 years much bigger than the rise of population.

The environment-movements acts more and more like a religious sect, when i watch their apocalyptical visions and their feeling of guilty and sin.

Andrew
If you really feel that way, can we count on you putting your advocacy into actions and doing your best to live in balance with nature?

Thanks - i look forward to you getting the hell off the 'Net and letting rational adults have discussions. Now, go away hypocrite.

Actually i was hoping that you would take one of your guns that you are so childishly obsessed with, put it to your temple, and pull the trigger.

Acutally thats nearly impossible in the united states. We've set up the laws in this country so living off the land is illegal. The only place uncultivated anymore is national parks which its illegal to live in without special permits you can't eat the wild life or plant life or you get busted. If it was up to me I would live in the mountains and live off the land I try to do it atleast 2 weeks out of every summer. Too bad I've been arrested twice for it in 5 years. We've created a society where living outside it's bounds isn't allowed. Not exactly free if you ask me but what ever.

You got the wealth part right. But only for an extreme minority. Satisfaction and life expectancy are debatable. Im only concerned with the quality of life and the long term viability of the landbase.

We live in almost complete denial of our human needs,

Nonetheless, a carrying capacity does exist for the planet. Or are you prepared to argue that the earth has infinite resources?

Actually those are the evangelicals, muslims, and catholics. And they are all heavily in love with civilization. You have it backwards.

Why? I'm not one of those claiming that humans have wrecked the environment and that we need to live in balance with nature. You, on the other hand, are. As such, i am simply suggesting that you put your money where your mouth is, so to speak.

Additionally, if i were to use one of my guns to kill myself, it would make me into an even greater hypocrite than you as I have always considered suicide to be a coward's way out and a permanent solution to a temporary problem.

You deciding to live in harmony with nature would quite honestly raise the level of respect i have for you. In fact, if just 10% of those who preach the environmentalist religion actually lived as they want to force others to live, they might not have a religion to preach....
