except it's too easy for these larger companies to buy out the smaller ones these days....
they keep buying and buying til there are none left.... hey, no competition, we can sell the stupid consumers anything now....

But, the consolidation of Whole Foods and Wild Oats doesn't necessarily eliminate competition. They serve different markets, and don't compete head-to-head very often (pretty much limited to larger cities).
There will be, either way, plenty of places to buy groceries, and the larger chains are carrying increasing numbers of organic and natural foods.
