Whole Foods Sought Rival to End Competition

Bloomberg.com: Worldwide

We already have one of these in cosmetics; don't need one in foods too.

Wild Oats really isn't that much competition to Whole Foods. Wild Oats' management is pathetic and its business model is not proving successful. Better to buy them and preserve what parts are good than to run them out of business.

Re: Whole Foods Sought Rival to End Competition

But, the consolidation of Whole Foods and Wild Oats doesn't necessarily eliminate competition. They serve different markets, and don't compete head-to-head very often (pretty much limited to larger cities).

There will be, either way, plenty of places to buy groceries, and the larger chains are carrying increasing numbers of organic and natural foods.

Yeah, right, and when their products become too expensive and too lousy, will there not be new competitors on the market? World domination is a thing that never last long.

There are also anti-trust laws, in case the normal market forces would work too slowly to dethrone the dominant corporation.
