That’s all America was asking for, horse power.
Now large families needing larger vehicles can sigh a breath of relief.

Re: H fuel cell car breaks 207 MPH in Bonneville
As illustrated by the crippled condition of US vehicle manufacturers due to their arrogance of producing larger and larger SUVs for margin purposes being rejected by that public.

Re: H fuel cell car breaks 207 MPH in Bonneville
Not sure where you guys get your information from. When I was a teenager it cost about ten bucks to fill my mustang @ $2.10 per hour working at K-Mart @ 1974 dollar value. It now cost $30.00 to fill a 69 mustang with almost everyone in the universe making at least a thousand a week. Gas is cheaper and vehicles are larger. The world your shown is merely propagated. There are no doom and gloom emergencies that you need rescued from by the democratic party. Life is good.

Ten bucks? When I was a kid (mid 70's) it was $5 to fill the tank.

Im not sure what you are ranting about here but you said that "all americans want is horsepower". Do you really think thats all americans want? Maybe thats all you want - but I tend to think the majority of americans are far more sophisticated than you. Andrew

Re: H fuel cell car breaks 207 MPH in Bonneville
True. I'm not into speed and performance all that much. I want transportation that can get me from point A to point B, reliably, safely, conveniently, and with minimal expense. I only want speed and acceleration enough to be able to merge, pass, and drive on highways.

Re: H fuel cell car breaks 207 MPH in Bonneville
Ok 207 mph is impressive, but it is a little redundant to say that the world's only production fuel cell vehicle is also the fastest.
I mean, how could it not be? But I have to say, that I am sick of OPEC and it's manipulation of the oil market and the constant crying by its member nations, like Venezuela, the GCC Arabs and Iran. So though I know very little about energy, I hope a future widespread adoption of fuel cell technology puts a serious dent in the price of crude.

Re: H fuel cell car breaks 207 MPH in Bonneville
Hydrogen Fuel cells and a hydrogen economy are extremely attractive. They are also extrmemely difficult to build. The entire energy infrastructure would have to be rebuilt. Its interesting, exciting, and totally unlikely to happen any time soon.
One fact people tend to forget is that hydrogen is not a source of energy like oil. You cant dig it out of the ground and burn it on the spot without any refining. Hydrogen is an energy carrier trapped in different molecules, i.e, natural gas and water. There is alot of energy that goes into to producing hydrogen and it is also not easy or safe to ship or pipe it. Its almost like dreaming of a colony on mars, possible, but unlikely to happen anytime soon. Besides, the oil companies are not going to just sit there and not fight back when people want to organize the economy around a different philosophy when there is still at least half the oil that there will ever be left in the ground. The major oil companies have been reinventing themselves as energy companies, not limiting themselves to just petroleum based products. However the reality is that petroleum based fuel is still the cheapest way to make cars run. I agree it will be a while before we see fuel cell technology as a mainstream source of energy, but it seems to be going in that direction.

Me want horsepower and fast off line. Me want big SUV that does 0-60 in 5 seconds.
