For those in a city, a personal automobile might be a luxury. For someone in a rural area, it is a vital necessity.

hmm. I kind of wondered if you were referring to me - in which case you seem to have forgotten that I have lived in a rural environment - and probably areas far more remote than many Americans have experienced. (73 kms form a decent shop, and 120 kms from a regional centre).

If you look at most cities in the US - can you honestly say they are well designed WRT public transport? From what I know its worse than here, and yet - despite recent improvements - we are still a long way behind European centres half our size and those which are much bigger.

We have cities designed around reliance on private motor transport, our cars are not just a means of transport, they are a status symbol as well - otherwise we'd all be smart like Americano and get zippy little cars that get from A to B on a third of the fuel.

Very few of us need cars as big as we have.

Few of us need computers or internet access, either.

And if I were referring to you, I'd have done so by name.

Watch his "Inconvenient" movie...or read the transcripts of the British judge who just ruled on the 11 falsehoods in the gorumentary, forcing schools to place a disclaimer and show kids who are being shown the film in school that it is inaccurate and alarmist.

Or just google it.

(Or you could remain in the dark....or perhaps build an ark)

Here is a good rebuttal to that judge:

It goes through each criticism of Gore's movie that this judge presented - one by one.
