Kinda hypocritical, no?

Matt
This is not a meeting of just UN delegates. Most governements sent their enviromental ministers, and many political parties also sent people. It doesnt matter if they had to go to New York or Bali

My guess is that they do not believe that CO2 is a problem, otherwise they wouldn't be acting like hypocrites.
You need to start doing a lot of flying first class, staying in 7-star hotels, eating in 3-star (Michelin) restaurants and being handsomely paid for doing so to better understand certain facets of human motivation. After doing so for a few years and having same on your resume, would you teleconference rather than be enabled to discuss your industry, put forth your opinions, make friends and enemies and advance your career in person in Bali? Easy call for anyone who has ever worked for a living.

Kinda like promoting dogfighting matches to show how much you hate dogfighting.

Hypocritical. And obviously disingenuous.

Is that your excuse for their lies?

Yes, they are an emotional bunch. I think he’s really upset because he noticed someone in the audience wearing the same outfit.
interesting source.

Good to know someone is keeping tabs on what was REALLY important at the conference.

"Scientists" who can't act professionaly (booing and crying) and can't get a grip on their emotions may be trivial to you. However, I prefer professionalism ; it's indicative of credibiity.

Not all present were scientists (a great many were politicians). In any case "scientists" who sideline discussions off topic aren't any better. The article you posted wasn't relevant at all to the OP.

It is pertinent to a discussion of US Politics that the US was booed - virtually unanimously. Previously the US had us on their side - but now with a change of government that has ceased to be the case.

The US is becoming increasingly more isolated, and as the US economy weakens, unless it begins to recognize that we are all on this planet together, it is likely to become more so.

Although of course China also needs to clean up its act (and in many ways - by no means only WRT carbon emissions) its hypocritical of the US to say 'you first' when the average Chinese carbon footprint is miniscule compared to the average American.

A dose of reality wouldn't hurt.

And the world booing is perhaps a small dose of that.

...and unprofessional. As the conference included scientists as well as policy reps, there should be professionalism and there was none. The booing and the crying demonstrates that. Isolation of the US because it is against surrendering soverignity of its environmental policy is fine by me (and the past two administrations), so appealing to isolation is not too effective and the behavior at the conference is immature and unprofessional.

I'm glad that we were booed. The UN has no say over us and many of us are NOT going to sit by and do nothing if the US caves to the UN's wishes.

Human nature. To deny or become upset about it seems rather idealistic.

Well, Dais, I think you can see now what kind of attitude is prevalent in the US and I'm afraid that this isn't going to change until we get a painful wakeup call--9/11 was one, but didn't manage to make the point. The American people are arrogant because they feel powerful and they willfully remain ignorant of those they look down on. Many people here truly believe that it isn't possible for humans to damage the ecosystems that we all depend on for our clean air and water. Another large segment are religious and believe that these are the END TIMES, therefore we don't need to do anything to solve the problems around us because Jesus is coming and He's going to take care of it. Pride goeth before a fall.

With any luck then it will be the END TIMES for THEM and the rest of us can evolve unshackled.

( How much you wanna bet that they want it to be the END TIMES for EVERYBODY ? Lol. )
