I can see you are a devout follower of the gospel according to St Matt and St SiModo et al, and therefore your interpretation of the Gospels of St Moon and St Andrew may be subject to misreading due to your lacking an understanding of the context of their writings.

I'd be interested in hearing what the "gospel of St. Si modo" is? See, if you are going to make such a snide claim, you really should clarify your interpretation of the alleged gospel about which you snipe.

One of the difficulties with all these gospels is that they are quite clearly open to interpretation - and I really don't feel I have enough familiarity with St Si Modo's cutural and historic context to be 100% sure I have interpreted accurately.

Yes - when one views 'ramming' and 'whaling boats' together in the historical context - it may well be seen as a pre emptive strike.

In the past it had been enough to come between the whales and the whalers, however the whalers upped the ante when they rammed a greenpeace boat.

Not only were they attacking defenceless whales, but they also attacked eco warriors - their own species.

One could hardly be surprised that an eco warrior may think it better to go on the attack if this is likely to happen.

Those with character would either not make such a snipe in the first place or would be willing to back it up. Good to know where you fall.

So your answer to the issue is that people should have just left the ships completely alone and let them do what they want to do? If no one ever protested and acted against the whalers then we would have allowed the whales to be hunted to extinction. All this in the name of something people don't really need. We don't need to hunt whales for food or fish oil anymore. The Japanese hunt whales for the simple fact that some rich people in Japan like the taste of whale. The Japanese like a lot of strange things (used girl panties are a prime example).

I myself find whale hunting dubious, but the ones who fight against it the strongest are extremists who would ruin people's lives for killing an animal. I think this sends the wrong signal.

Of course, if you choose to interpret it as a snipe then thats your business Si Modo.

And of course, we can definitely allow others to determine whether it is a snipe - or whether your reaction is what creates a dialogue which is becoming adversarial.

I think that one hump-backed whale forms an extremely important component in the planet's ecological machinery. I wouldn't swap it for a thousand saki-guzzling, Japanese harpooneer wankers. Neither would a considerable number of sentient Japanese. Thanks to them for their opposition to this ecological criminality.

From what I understand, the purpose of the ban was to save the whaling industry, not destroy it. The moritorium on commercial whale hunting is simply a means to that end, not the end in and of itself.

After all, if you kill all the whales there won't be anymore whales to hunt.
