I brined my turkey that I cooked for Thanksgiving.

I do not recall ever having a brined turkey.I did have a brined beer can chicken and it was pretty good.

I've tasted one. It was good, but I prefer non-brined roasted turkey. The brined turkey tasted a bit too much like deli turkey for me.

It doesn't have to, SM. A lot depends on how long it was brined. I do mine like 12 hours or so. It makes the breast meat a lot juicier and adds some saltiness to the meat, but not to the level of deli meat.

Yes but it's only been recently that everyone seems to brining turkeys. I want turkey meat to taste like turkey not like some chemical! What turkey did you find that wasn't brined?

OK NOW HEAR THIS:
The following fastfoods are using injected flavoring that mask the good taste of the poultry: KFC Bojangles Chic O Filet Plus all the brand names of poultry have added this flavoring which once again masks the good flavor of real turkey and chicken.

I bought an heirloom turkey at Whole Foods. Nothing but turkey in that package.

Heretofore, I had never heard of "brined turkey". After some reading, it sounds promising.
I deep fat fried a turkey for Thanksgiving last year. Turned out very, very good. Can (should?) you fry a brined turkey? |

You can (assuming you dry it well, and really know what you're doing), but from what I've heard about deep-fried turkeys, it's not really necessary.
Brining makes for a very moist turkey when roasted. Since fried turkeys are generally very moist anyway, I'm not sure that you'd see much benefit, other than maybe a little more flavorful meat. I've thought about frying one, but I just don't have the space in my current residence.

![]() You know what I meant. My patio is WAY too small and close to the house, and I don't have a yard to speak of. Alton Brown did a great demonstration of how quickly it can go bad. I wouldn't do it within 50' of my house.

....but what about them brining turkeys or using injections of enhanced flavoring? Nobody here cares if turkey and chicken now tastes like apple cider or garlic or sage?

I dunno. I've never purchased any turkey that has been injected with anything. I'm not sure if that's even legal.
