Evolution is a repeater

I thought this was a fascinating article. Plus, it talks about fish, so it has to be good.

I don't know if the comparison of many lakes to many planets is completely analogous, but it was a cool way to try to break down the greatest experiment that I could think of doing (even if it is totally impossible to do).

Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

I agree, it is interesting to see such compelling evidence. I wish people like Mike Huckabee would read this article too.

Re: Evolution is a repeater

I have to say though, that this makes sense and did not strike me as being anything new.
My first reaction to the various earth's scenario, was that they would all turn out fairly similarly given every earth would presumably have the same environmental stresses (aside from asteroids).

If the various planets were all life supporting but not necessarily "earth", I can imagine the variations would diverge rapidly and develop drastically different.

If I roll a marble down a 2X4 with gutters, there are many different paths the ball can take but it will consistently travel downward. If I had dips and bumps and various impediments to the 2X4, I can make slightly better predictions about that path the ball will take. If I had identical 2X4's with identical dips and bumps and impediments, and drop identical marbles at an identical height, they will not all take the same path the the predictability of the path will be the same for each board and the marbles will still travel consistently downward.

So yeah...the lakes are relatively similar and I might have predicted that there would be some common evolutionary developments.

Is that crazy?
