Case for a Planned World Economy

Article: The destruction of a great river system

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
If there were ever a case for a planned economy, it’s unfolding in Australia, the planet’s driest inhabited continent. Agriculture is in crisis in the Murray-Darling basin, one of the world’s largest river systems. A third of the country’s food is produced along the banks of the Murray River and its tributaries, chief among them the Darling.

Global warming has reduced rainfall, so that even where farming is possible, it is with shrinking supplies of stored water. Towns will be abandoned and thousands of jobs have already been lost. Australia has been the world’s second-largest exporter of wheat and a significant rice exporter. But this trade has nose-dived because of the water crisis.

In early April winds from a violent storm battered the southern city of Melbourne, leaving 450,000 houses without power. No rain came with the storm. The drying of the south of Australia, flooding in the north, greater weather violence: exactly as predicted by climate change modelling. This is what global warming looks like.

What’s clear is that the problems will never disappear unless capitalism is tossed over. Our civilisations and our planet are in grave jeopardy unless we act now, collectively and decisively. Any solution that ignores this is no solution at all.

If you disagree with that, consider this: the terrible tragedy that has hit Myanmar has further depleted planetary rice stocks. People in other countries will go hungry because the markets have just hiked prices by 10 percent.

But, in a planned world economy, food would go where it’s needed. Shortfalls caused by disasters could be made good, in part, by plentiful supplies from Australia — grown sustainably in the water-rich tropical north.
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

See? Problems solved!

Global Warming lines up perfectly with the Loony Agenda.

How come we never see good news used as a case to advance Leftism? (Rhetorical question...I already know the answer.)

If I want comedy, there are those more accomplished in it from sources other than USPOL.

To the OP, I don't know why good news isn't used rather than doomsday, lately. I do know that denial of good news is rampant, though.

Re: Case for a Planned World Economy

Thats the result of 150 years of mans progress burning fossil fuels, we have recreated an atmosphere 10,000 years old. We have already pushed beyond the safe envelope as science can attest to. We have polar ice caps melting at a rate 50 times faster than the 2005 estimate. In the U.S. we have gone from 200 tornado's in 2003 to over 800 in early May this year at a steady increase.
We have Typhoons/Hurricanes/and Cyclones ever increasing in strength and numbers as the temperatures climb. Famine, Drought, Pestilence, Flood, Volcanic and Geothermic energy on the increase. Look at it anyway you want, truth is happening right in front of your eyes.

Re: Case for a Planned World Economy

What we need are strictly localized economies, where communities have full decision making power over development.

OK. Someone needs to share their happy juice with the rest of us. I think I'm too sober to appreciate assclown humor.

Naah that's a bad idea. There will be no possibily to build a nuclear plant or a chemical factory or a railway then. I've always been a proponent of a governement which pushes through large construction plans even if the locals don't want it. We can't allow local governements to keep getting in the way of the common good.

But water would be cleaner, land would be more fruitful, and people would be healthier, and the economy would be sustainable. Why i should want nuclear or chemical plants is beyond me.... But ultimately communities could cooperate with each other on things like railroads and river systems. As long as both communities interests were treated equal.

By allowing communities who actually have interests in the communities they live in to make important decisions for that community, we would ultimately maximize the common good for everybody.

When you have a centrally planned economy the common good goes out the window. Look at soviet Russia for instance. And then contrast that with the localized economies that have developed in Russia after the collapse. Its a fascinating study.

For reference: Reinventing Collapse by Dmitry Orlov.

When the junk science behind the stuff you just claimed to be fact is debunked - and it will be - your post will be on the Internet for all eternity for your descendants to admire and enjoy. "Wasn't grandpa silly?"

This is unlike most of the fools from the 1970's who insisted another Ice Age would already be upon us by now. Most of their hysterical rants and raves are deeply hidden within dusty periodical libraries and unreadable microfiche.

The whole man-caused-global-warming movement is nothing but a colossal grab for power and money with a nice socialist twist.

Folks like me will keep our finger in the dike until the truth triumphs (unless said "dyke" is one of those nasty looking N.O.W. trollops, that is).

Hurrucane count has been way down from all of the projections after 2005. In 2006 The Weather Channel had to play re-runs of previuos hurricanes as there was not enough activity in 2006. Famine, drought...... are we gonna be cannibals in 40 years??? Sounds too much likeTed Turner .
