Hemp, the Wonder Weed, Why the Hell Not!

With oil hitting $140 a barrel, and corn ethanol being only slightly more efficient to bring to market than fossil fuels, why the hell is hemp still being given the cold shoulder?

Hemp is up to ten times more efficient per acre than corn to produce ethanol, not to mention environmentally friendly (unlike corn).

Hemp can also be used to produce not only ethanol, but also methanol, methane, and bio-diesel. The diesel engine was designed to run on bio-fuels such as from hemp oil.

Not only does hemp have the potential to replace fossil fuels, it also has the potential to replace all petroleum products.

Hemp has to potential to replace timber pulp products.

Hemp can be used to make food, feed, skin products, oil, fuel, cars, plastics, paper, buildings, and clothes, just to name a few.

Isn't it obvious, hemp is the wonder weed that keeps on giving, it's hardy, can grow virtually everywhere in the United States, stabilized and enriches the soil, leaves no crop toxins (unlike corn), crowds out other weeds, and doesn't require the best farmland to grow.

Why is hemp getting the brush off? Do we really want independence from foreign oil? Hemp can play a large part in achieving that goal.

I say go the extra mile and allow for cannabis farming, and let us all enjoy the multitude of gifts nature has bestowed upon us.

This country used to think hemp was our way to victory--Hemp for Victory.

It's time to break the big oil ties that bind us, and forge the way to a new hemp economy.

Re: Hemp, the Wonder Weed, Why the Hell Not!

First we've got to lift the laws that make it next to impossible to grow industrial hemp in the United States, and considering we're the only developed nation that fails to cultivate industrial hemp as an economic crop that could take a while. Industrial hemp does more good than harm, and all because of the evil weed pot its probably never going to be grown in the US anytime soon. :P

As for pushing for cannabis farming, your just insuring it'll never happen. One weed at a time, and most importantly the one that has no effects on your state of mind and practical uses to boot.

This has bugged me for the last 20 or so years. I don't understand how we can be the largest consumer of a product yet it is illegal to produce said product.
