I cannot endorse this post enough. I see a lot of this in our society these days. And I think it is very counterproductive to our situation and will result in our country losing its edge if we continue to follow it. Faith must be tempered with reason.

But the fact that the earth has, in its history, had far higher temperatures and far colder temperatures than any being predicted by even the most idiotic alarmists who claim we are "killing the planet" demonstrates that we are not killing the planet.

Let me put this out there for those who buy into the idea that we are causing such extreme damage as to our wellbeing as a species, maybe even our extinction. Isn't it incredibly irresponsible and dangerous for Obama and the democrats to expend political capital pushing so hard for health care reform when it delays, and possibly makes politically unfeasable climate change legislation?

Al Gore making foolish analogies likening global warming to a baby having a fever ('when a baby in a crib has a fever you don't wait to ask what's causing it'), which makes the patently false presumption that the planet, unlike a human being, has any specific temperature that is "normal", it doesn't, the only norm in global climate is constant change. The planet's "normal" temperature is not a specific point, but a fairly wide range historically that, as I said, even the most wildly hysterical and hyperbolic worriers' predictions fall well within.

We are destroying species way beyond the background extinction rate, both as a result of global warming and as a result of habitat destruction. We are not killing the planet, but we are certainly destroying the ability of the planet to support life as we know it.


Could be. Health Care is a an american issue, it has no effect on me at all. I could care less about your health care problems. The issue with climate is a global issue and is far more important. From that perspective i would prefer to see Obama be way more bold and much more radical on that front.

The average temperature of the globe that supports life as we know it is about 14 degrees celsius. We are currently very close to 15 degrees. another 3 or 4 degrees on top of that, (which is where we are headed in the next 50 years if the status quo reins) would make life as we know it impossible.

I think if you examine the evidence carefully, you'll see that in the six thousand years since the earth was created, there have been warmer periods and cooler periods, for example right after creation it was warm enough so Adam and Eve didn't need clothes, then it cooled down a little after the flood, so now people need clothes. But I don't see it getting so warm unless it is a sign of the second coming of the Lord. Maybe he's heating up the earth so that after the wicked are thrust into the pit, the righteous won't need clothes anymore, as there would be no more impure thoughts after the wicked were cast into perdition.
