**sigh** Yes it is. Who told you that nonsense?

There are other mechanisms by which global temps increase or decrease besides CO2.

Particulate matter in the atmosphere also has a cooling effect. Volcanoes. La Nina, Atlantic ocean currents, solar irradiance, and the earths eccentric orbit about the sun all play a role.

The other issue is lag. C02 heats up the atmosphere relatively instantly, but the oceans take a very long time to heat up. Ocean temps are one of the major drivers of global climate.

Its not really a matter of opinion.

Ah, but are there other mechanisms by which the climate changes that are not driven by human actions?

Yes. However, according to the science as it is at this moment, none of those mechanisms are currently in play that would cause the warming that we currently experience.

The other very important point to note here is that of all the previous episodes of global climate change in the paleoclimate record manifested themselves slowly over thousands of years through natural processes. (and i emphasize global here so as not to be confused with regional)

The global climate change we are experiencing right now is unprecedented in its speed. The reason for this is because not only are we pumping tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere that was not formerly part of the carbon cycle, we are actively destroying the two major carbon sinks on the planet, forests and oceans.

We are not giving the system the time or space to correct itself.

Not unlike holocaust deniers or creationists in that regard.

Re: What happened to global warming ?

Regardless of any correlations in the data we see CO2 levels cycle up and down, up and down over the ages. Now man contributes enough CO2 on the top that we will never see a downward trend in CO2 greenhouse gases as long as we continue to emit green house gas pollutants at such an astounding unprecedented rate.

I fail to understand why anyone believes this will have no effect.

Re: What happened to global warming ?

Personally I'm not convinced human caused global warming (where humans are the main contributor) is real. However, its a bit reckless to assume that everything is A-ok to continue deforesting the planet and burning fossil fuels like there is no tomorrow.

Its like driving down the highway when you aren't sure what the speed limit is, so you figure what the hell, the speed limit must be 265 miles per hour and gun it.

How is using our planet's resources more efficiently and searching for more renewable forms of energy a bad thing?

Everything is disputable. You fail to dispute anything.

You have to look at Her entire climate history, not just the spots that appeal to your argument for falling skies.

(and I'm still waiting to know what the average Earth temprature is supposd to be. Without knowing that, how can you say there is a problem?)

tell Andy...

I'm comfortable letting the people studying this manage this. The ones not in the circle of self reviewing peers.
