We do cloth diapers at my house and recycle, along with a few other things.

I just see environmentalism as being perverted by political causes to push certain agendas that have nothing to do with environmentalism.
I agree to a certain point. One thing to be aware of though when speaking of agendas is that this works both ways. For example, the latest IPCC report has been shown to be very conservative in its forecasts, and this was the result of oil producing nations wanting to downplay the actual danger from AGW.

Think about this...if the clothies would foul up the washer so would just washing your normal funky/dirty clothes, eventually.

Estimates for diapering a child, until they are potty trained, usually land you around $3k. If you exclusively cloth diaper you can pull it off for around $500. Additionally, there is actually a market for selling used cloth diapers so you can even recover up to as high as half of that. Cloth diapers are very advanced, these days and are not the fold and pin things of the past.

Then you have the additional advantage of not putting thousands of chemical filled disposable diapers in the ground.
We use cloth as well with our second child. The other benefit is that she is becoming potty trained way faster than the first child who was on disposables. Also less diaper rash, and less stink as well.

In our experience cloth is far superior to disposables in almost all situations. The only thime cloth is not good is for road trips and such... but that is always just the exception, not the rule.

UN signals delay in climate change treaty
By EDITH M. LEDERER (AP) – 3 hours ago

UNITED NATIONS — Just weeks before an international conference on climate change, the United Nations signaled it was scaling back expectations of reaching agreement on a new treaty to slow global warming.

Janos Pasztor, director of the secretary-general's Climate Change Support Team, said Monday "it's hard to say how far the conference will be able to go" because the U.S. Congress has not agreed on a climate bill, and industrialized nations have not agreed on targets to reduce their carbon dioxide emissions or funding to help developing countries limit their discharges.

Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has made a new climate treaty his top priority, hosting a Sept. 22 summit on climate change to spur political support and traveling extensively to build political momentum for a global agreement to replace the 1997 Kyoto Protocol which only requires 37 industrialized nations to cut emissions.

Pasztor told a news conference "there is tremendous activity by governments in capitals and internationally to shape the outcome" of the climate change conference in Copenhagen, Denmark, in early December, which "is a good development" because political leadership is essential to make a deal.

But he indicated that Copenhagen most likely won't produce a treaty, but instead will push governments as far as they can go on the content of an agreement.

In the scheme of things concerning climate change. Asteroids and industrialized society are looking to be very similar.
