Brown: 50 Days to Save the World From Global Warming
More climate change fearmongering.
Quote:
It's embarrassing that we have heads of state spouting this crap. Thankfully Gordon Brown won't survive the next election in the UK. Unfortunately, there are several more asshats like him around the world who still have influence.

IMO overplaying has cost the folks on Gordo's side greatly (reference the attention to Al Gore's intentional gilding of the lily in his slide show/movie).. Can't speak for the world but around here, its not just people from Missouri that insist that you "show me".

Re: Brown: 50 Days to Save the World From Global Warming
I think its pretty clear what Brown meant. If the international community does not come to some sort of agreement and plan of action @ Copenhagen and the world just goes on "business as usual" afterwords, well, yeah - unmitigated AGW will play itself out. How it plays itself out is subject to debate, sure, but its pretty clear that a rapidly changing climate is not a good thing for any species on the planet.

Re: Brown: 50 Days to Save the World From Global Warming
Obama can sign any treaty he likes, but without 2/3's Senate support it's meaningless. If this round is anything like Clinton's, Obama will be lucky to get a couple of dozen Dems and two Republicans. Sure, there's a lot more Socialists in the Senate than Clinton had, but most of the Dems have some hope of being reelected.

We might not be able to stop this culture from destroying the life support systems of the earth, correct. Why should it happen? Do we have to behave this way? "99% of all species that have ever existed on this planet are extinct" over the entire course of the history of life on this planet, yes that is true. But the problem is that right now we are killing off species at a rate magnitudes higher than the background extinction rate. Andrew

Re: Brown: 50 Days to Save the World From Global Warming
No. That's the role of the oil and gas funded PR groups that purposely and deliberately obfuscate the science.
Quote:
![]() Figure 1. Global temperature according to NASA GISS data since 1980. The red line shows annual data, the larger red square a preliminary value for 2009, based on January-August. The green line shows the 25-year linear trend (0.19 ºC per decade). The blue lines show the two most recent ten-year trends (0.18 ºC per decade for 1998-2007, 0.19 ºC per decade for 1999-2008) and illustrate that these recent decadal trends are entirely consistent with the long-term trend and IPCC predictions. Even the highly “cherry-picked” 11-year period starting with the warm 1998 and ending with the cold 2008 still shows a warming trend of 0.11 ºC per decade (which may surprise some lay people who tend to connect the end points, rather than include all ten data points into a proper trend calculation). And more explanation of why the earth is still warming. How we know global warming is still happening How we know global warming is happening, Part 2 Quote:

Re: Brown: 50 Days to Save the World From Global Warming
So in other words, the planet has just slightly fewer days to divert Armageddon than Gordy does in office.
How convenient.
