ACE held responsible for damages

First let me say that this is NOT about New Orleans as a whole but rather St. Bernard Parish and the Lower Ninth Ward.
MRGO (Mississippi River Gulf Outlet) has been a thorn in the side of SE Louisiana for years and it was finally closed this year. It was originally built as a shortcut for ships but seldom saw more than a ship a day, and because it was poorly maintained, erosion tripled the width over the years. During Katrina, MRGO actually provided a means for the storm surge that contributed to the levee breaches in some areas, something some have said for years could happen. Now, a judge has decided that ACE is responsible and has awarded $700,000 in damages to several which has opened the door for others in their own lawsuits against the government. All I can say is it's about damn time!

If I remember right, it was built in the mid-60's.

Why does he bother posting in a serious thread then? Maybe he should go away and let the adults talk.

It may not be about New Orleans "as a whole" but I do believe it's where all the main damage was done

And I'm still waiting to see how you're going to blame this on the Governor or the Mayor like you've consistently done everything else that happened there.

I'll discuss this with you when you do some research on the area damaged by MRGO. As I said in the OP, the area affected was St. Bernard Parish, which is NOT New Orleans and the Lower Ninth Ward, which is a section of New Orleans adjacent to St. Bernard. And for the record, I've posted other things about MRGO before.

OK, so any of THIS damage was caused by the Army Corps of Engineers.

But any OTHER damage caused by the same system of levees was all the local Dems fault.

OK, I understand now.

Re: ACE held responsible for damages

Everybody is for the idea of tort reform unless it is something that has affected them directly, that's the point. It's like bitchin' about lawyers, everyone calls them a bunch of low life parasites - until they they find themselves in legal trouble. Or having the opinion that all regulation is bad, but then complining if you get harmed by a shoddy product.

Mrs. M, I apologize it appeared as some sort of an attack on you, or a mockery of any misfortune you may have had. That was not the intent.

Perhaps irony would be a better word than comedy in describing some of my posts (especially since very few are actually humorous - I'll keep my day job).

Now let's get back to slingin' poop at each other!!

I have NEVER said that the failure of the levees was the fault of ANY political party but rather the fault of the Orleans Levee Board and ACE and if you can't bother being honest about this, I won't bother to respond again. I do however, suggest that you research the levee system and the areas of St. Bernard Parish and the Lower Ninth Ward to give you a better understanding of the subject.

Re: ACE held responsible for damages

The ACE does exactly what Congress gives them money for, and nothing more.
