Yes I posted this up a few weeks back...it hasn't slowed at all.
It is disturbing to say the least.

I think that thousands of people should get together, grab their cameras, and simply walk down there and start taking pictures. What a beautiful site that would be! And it would feel pretty good too, i bet.

Oh, yeah. Let's keep running Joe Barton commercials instead of showing people what's going on down there...

    I agree.

The complete lack of media access to the oil spill and affected areas is an appalling breach of 1st amendment rights. It is no surprise that BP would do this along with attempt to hide information from the public regarding this environmental disaster. I found bpfixedtheleak.com, and it had a funny solution. It would at least work better than the cap they're putting on Monday (or did they mean Wednesday).

i heard a story about this on NPR on the way to work today. apparently there are complaints every single day regarding media intimidation. one story involved a reporter who was headed towards the area when she was cut off by a with a few police officer and a couple BP reps which told her to turn around and threatened her and her crew with arrest. that's pretty shitty if you ask me and it's not how the media is supposed to be treated in america.

edit: found the article and you can listen to it as well.

Actually I was just thinking the other day that BP is being amazingly transparent. Well, they are giving out a lot of information directly anyway. They are indeed going around the media to get their message out.

well yeah they're going around the media...that way they can control the message and keep the do-gooders from reporting on any of the bad stuff they see.

Sure, but they are keeping us remarkably well informed on what they are doing. Far more than the federal govt.

but how can you be sure of that if the media is not allowed proper access? you're just believing everything bp says on faith.

oh and the standard for transparency to the media should not be the one set by the feds. that's an awful standard.
