IED jammers are also known as Counter Radio Controlled Improvised Explosive Device Electronic Warfare (CREW) systems.[4] CREW systems include IED Countermeasures Equipment (ICE) and the Warlock, both use RF energy to block the signals of radio control (R/C) explosives detonators, such as cell phones, satellite phones, and long-range cordless telephones. Other countermeasures include the Joint IED Neutralizer (JIN) and the Neutralizing Improvised Explosive Devices with Radio Frequency (NIRF), which produce a high-frequency field to neutralize IED electronics. A system now deployed in Iraq, code-named PING, fits inside a Humvee and sends out electromagnetic waves to penetrate the walls of buildings to detect improvised explosives. Other sensors, such as the Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy system (LIBS), detect traces of explosives used for improvised explosives from as far away as 30 meters.
The Warlock Force Protection System (versions Blue, Green, and Red) and the Shortstop Electronic Protection System are jamming systems designed by EDO (now ITT Electronic Systems, EWS) and Whittaker Corporation, respectively. Originally designed to defeat proximity fused indirect fire munitions, Warlock has a dual capability to deny the use of enemy communication devices. Warlock Red is a low-cost jammer to counter specific threats that have been emerging in increasing numbers. Warlock Green is a more capable jammer used to address more sophisticated threat systems. The Warlock has gone through many revisions, to add more frequencies and better software. Older systems such as Shortstop weigh over 40 pounds excluding power source and occupy 1.5 cubic feet.
I was thinking about this the other day and I was wondering if there was a twist on this type of system that would actually kill those planting the devices. I'm not anything close to an expert on radio wave theory so I don't know the feasibility of it. Here goes....

What if we changed the process so that instead of jamming it sends out proper signals that would detonate the IED? We could hid them in "leave behind" systems in high IED areas so they are constantly running. Mr. Taliban comes along and plants his IED and as soon as he activates it, BOOM!, he meets Allah and his 72 virgins. This would only work with command detonated devices and not with victim detonated devices.

So what do ya'll think? I have a prototype name for it, "Judas". :sneaky2:

LONDON — As President Obama moves closer to a decision on the United States military’s request for more troops in Afghanistan, the British government has made an unflinching commitment to continue its role as the second largest troop provider in the 43-nation coalition fighting the war.

In the face of opinion polls suggesting that British public opinion has moved sharply against the war in the face of rising British casualties, Prime Minister Gordon Brown and David Miliband, the foreign secretary, used major speeches in the past two days to reaffirm Britain’s determination to fight on in Afghanistan alongside the United States.

They also renewed a commitment made last month to increase, by an initial increment of at least 500 soldiers, Britain’s current Afghan deployment of 9,000 troops. That compares with the 68,000 already committed by the United States, and 27,000 from other coalition countries. Mr. Obama has spent several weeks reviewing a request by Gen. Stanley A. McChrystal, the American and NATO commander in Afghanistan, for a further increase of as many as 40,000 troops.

I cant see this being discussed anywhere else. If it is please merge.

To all those who support Israel and say that Israel is looking for peace. Here is another proof that Israel is working so hard AGAINST peace. The argument of Hamas being a "terrorist organisation" cannot be used here because this has nothing to do with them.

They've been criticized by the US and the UN... and what did Israel do? Stick the finger to both and told them am going ahead to build this in East Jerusalem.

East Jerusalem is Palestinian Land... but the funny this is, the mayor of Jerusalem said, this land belongs to Jerusalem Municipality and not the West Bank... WTF :confused1

Anyway, its not new for Israel to build illegal settlments on Palestinian Land instead of Israeli land further to the west.

They also knocked down a couple of palestinian houses saying they were built illegally. How the **** can a palestinian obtain a construction permit from Jerusalem Municipality :confused1

So to all those who tried numerously to split the blame 50/50 on both sides... you should be ashamed of yourselves.... this is a one sided aggression and injustice. You cannot argue... oh yeah but Hamas is also building illegal settlements on Israel Land. There is NO counter argument....

Oh there is... hang on... the Mayor of Jerusalem says: "Put a shoval in that ground and you will find Jewish Roots" Am sure you will find plenty of Jewish Roots somewhere near Tel Aviv... get the **** off palestian land.

Whats the solution? The US and the UN have both proved they are paralyzed infront of this zionist movement who is grabbin them by the balls in other fronts back home! So whats the solution? Why cant the US use stronger measures,... impose sanctions, cut off aid (financial and military)... this is how the US looses credibility... by siding with the wrong side. Warning them is not enough!... They have been warned on the past 1000 illegal settlments.... its time to take stronger action.

This is causing serious embarassment in Washington... they are so hellbent on the Iran issue whereas this is the heart of all Middle East's problems.... you deal with this first. Natanyahu, the zionist leader of Israel, stuck the finger to Obama when Obama warned him about this illegal settlement construction. What a joke!
On Wednesday night, the Amherst Town Meeting voted to approve a resolution calling for two Guantánamo Bay detainees to be resettled in Amherst, MA. The resolution also urged Congress to repeal its ban on releasing Guantánamo detainees into the United States.

The effort in Amherst was led by the Pioneer Valley chapter of No More Guantánamos, a national organization directed and founded by BORDC’s founding director, Nancy Talanian (who is also a member of the Pioneer Valley group). Amherst Town Meeting member Ruth Hooke, who is also a founding member of Pioneer Valley No More Guantánamos, introduced the resolution last month. Other chapters of No More Guantánamos exist in North Carolina, Colorado, Florida, and New York.

The whole thing is becoming a joke as the other terrorist are going look at whats happening in Somalia which would give them a morale boost they they should never have had.
AQ is not popular in somalia but the somali people hve no support from the international community to get rid of AQ out of somalia.
The current popular government remains weak with little help or support from the international community.
Obama just watches as somalia turns into and AQ stronghold, the world must act before it is too late, before AQ has time to entrench itself within somali soceity.
If that happens then it would be much harder to get rid of AQ out of somalia than it could be now.

Pyongyang, November 10 (KCNA) -- The Supreme Command of the Korean People's Army Tuesday issued a report on the grave armed provocation perpetrated by the south Korean forces in the waters of the north side in the West Sea of Korea this day.

According to the report, today the north side let a patrol boat of the Navy of the KPA on routine guard duty promptly go into action to confirm an unidentified object that intruded into the waters of its side.

When the patrol boat was sailing back after confirming the object at about 11: 20 a group of warships of the south Korean forces chased it and perpetrated such a grave provocation as firing at it.

The patrol boat of the north side, which has been always combat-ready, lost no time to deal a prompt retaliatory blow at the provokers.

Much flurried by this, the group of warships of the south Korean forces hastily took to flight to the waters of their side.

The south Korean military authorities should make an apology to the north side for the armed provocation and take a responsible measure against the recurrence of the similar provocation.

When will those awful South Korean swine stop being such terrible aggressors, bent on attacking and destroying the honorable and venerable Juche philosophy? Mighty and glorious North Korea was merely acting within its rights to protect its borders from illegal Chinese fishing activities when they were shot upon by the dishonorable South Korean forces. The North Korean ship, always leading the world in advanced military technology and undeniably superior military tactics was easily able to thwart the unprovoked and illegal advances from the Yankee lap dog South Korean warship, sending them running back to safety of their own waters like a lap dog with its tail between its legs.
BOGOTA (Reuters) - Colombia said on Sunday it will appeal to the U.N. Security Council and the OAS after Hugo Chavez, the fiery leftist president of neighboring Venezuela, ordered his army to prepare for war in order to assure peace.

For months Chavez has said that a military cooperation pact signed last month between Bogota and Washington could set the stage for a U.S. invasion of Venezuela from Colombian territory.

The United States and Colombia dismiss that idea, saying cooperation is aimed strictly at fighting drug traffickers and Marxist insurgents within Colombia.

During a Sunday television address, Chavez ordered his military to prepare for war as the best way to preserve peace in the region. Colombian President Alvaro Uribe shot back with a statement rejecting Chavez's remarks.

Even for Hugo, openly calling for war with Columbia is a new level of rhetoric. Faced with a stagnating economy and domestic problems, is he just turning up the volume to try and keep the populace distracted, or does this constitute a genuine escalation in the long-brewing spat between Columbia and Venezuela?

Perhaps he's looking to justify his $3,000,000,000.00 worth of weapons purchases to an increasingly discontent public? Or is he just eager to test out his new toys?

You are an adviser to the president of Freedonia, Rufus T. Firefly. The neighboring country of Sylvania is expected to declare war soon. President Firefly wants to know what is the fairest approach for Freedonia to use to fill its military manpower needs in defense.

You have three options:

1. All volunteer
2. Volunteer and mercenary
3. Draft

How would you respond to President Firefly and why?

Absoloutly tragic, they'd just got back from patrol, taken off there kit and disarmed before they got savegly gunned down from behind. Looks like about 12 injured all in all (with some Afgan police as well) by someone who was supposed to be there ally.

Its times like this that I do wonder about this war, I've supported it through but with Karzi attempting undermine democracy with every move and our inability to make the police and army loyal to any decent standard I do wonder if victory is possible; and how many young men are going to die before this is over.

Any soloutions to stopping the Taliban from infiltrating like this guys?

Oh, and;

How has the Patriot Act affected you?

I am curious.

I have been hearing lots of hatred against the Patriot Act for years now. People claim that it will be bringing out total fascism. That civil rights will go away. That people can be arrested and placed in jail forever without trial. That search warrents will no longer be needed and law enforcement would be doing "midnight raids". That immigrants will be locked up in concentration camps.

And how much of this have I seen?

None.

So tell me, how has the Patriot Act actually affected your life? Has anybody here (or an immediate family member-friend) been locked up for violating it? Have any of you been pulled in for questioning by the FBI for having "Anti-American Views"?

I do not want to hear trite speculation. No "they may be listening to my conversations", that is tinfoil hat land. Real things, real events. How many have been pulled in and questioned. How many arrested.

Because according to so many, this is absolute evil. yet I have heard of none of these events happening. Is the "Nazi Media" keeping it a secret from us? Are there really concentration camps in Missouri, full of people who simply said they US is evil, so they are locked up without trial?
