Amen, Brother Slon!

And by the way, I like your idea of putting a minefield all along the southern border. Hell, if we can torture Arabs, we can blow up Mexicans trying to cross. After all, they breed like chickens, and there are only so many Pizza Huts they can work at, right?

Well, I'm glad you agree here.

I don't see what torturing Arabs in foreign countries once they are captured has to do with preventative measures that actively stop people from crossing the border into our country, not that I support torture. But nice try.

Anytime you're ready to start debating instead of making bullshit connections between unrelated issues (neither of which you have argued successfully, might I add)...

Why do you want to debate with someone who's agreeing with you?

Because "After all, they breed like chickens, and there are only so many Pizza Huts they can work at, right?" seemed like sarcasm to me.

Not at all. It's just supply and demand. If you want better wages for actual working Americans, you have to reduce the size of the labor pool. Blowing a bunch of Mexicans apart is unquestionably an effective way to do that.

Actually, the desired effect is to keep them from even attempting to cross.

I am glad everyone who advocates militarizing the border is for increasing taxes. I guess we know who won't be asking for reducing welfare-state social services since they don't mind paying higher taxes for a warfare-state.

With no established plan for inside the country, the wall is wasted money. I am in agreement.

One of the primary purposes of government is defense. It is not a fundamental purpose of government to provide for the poor.

The wall alone is not really a good idea. Light vehicle patrols and land mines need to be utilized.

Light vehicle patrols would be that QRF (quick reactionary force) I spoke of. Landmines would not significantly increase the effectiveness of the wall, but would increase danger to non-offenders, and particularly our troops if they needed to react to a situation.

You have a point about the danger to the troops. Scratch the light vehicles and just use helicopters. The way I think it should be done is just by making the entire border a restricted area (except for a few main road checkpoints that are guarded anyway). Then, build a wall with "landmine" warnings and put the landmines within the restricted area. Even if it is not an illegal immigrant, it is still someone trying to cross the border/enter the restricted area illegally, whether to get into or out of Mexico/US. Cameras would make it cheaper in the long run since helicopters will only have to respond to threats, as opposed to burning gas patrolling randomly.

I agree with you that one of the purposes of government is to provide for the common defense; not the common offense. However, imho, the primary purpose of the US government is to promote the general welfare. The warfare-state model is not conducive to promoting the general welfare; however, the welfare-state model can run massive surpluses while still providing for the common defense.
