While that quote is oft cited, it doesnt change the fact that NAZI Germany did heavily restrict private arms ownership.

In fact, I seem to remember a certain civil rights group (no, not the NRA, but the JPFO) took out a full-page ad in the NYT back around 1968 or so in which they displayed side by side the 1938 Nazi Weapons Law and the 1968 Gun Control Act and lo and behold, the 1968 GCA is a near verbatim copy.

So, while that quote is bogus, the sentiment behind it is not. Fake but accurate if you would (no, i am NOT condoning the use of false quotes)

The point is primarily about making people think about the major drawbacks to gun control.

Considering the effect the resistance in the Warsaw ghettos had with just a few armed men, imagine how effective it could have been had even 20% of the Jews been armed and willing to use their weapons. I suspect the holocaust would have never occured and the NAZI party would have been nothing more than an historical footnote.

I think you underestimate the brainwashing power of the Nazi party and overestimate the effectiveness of guns against an oppressive government.
