Jobs Americans won't do? Ahh...

Rocky Mountain News - Denver and Colorado's reliable source for breaking news, sports and entertainment: Local

From the article: "GREELEY - The line of applicants hoping to fill jobs vacated by undocumented workers taken away by immigration agents at the Swift & Co. meat-processing plant earlier this week was out the door Thursday. "

I think the employers were the ones making the case for the illegals and the "work Americans won't do" BS.

Re: Jobs Americans won't do? Ahh...

The notion that "there are jobs Americans won't do" is perposterous, particularly with minimum wage in the picture. There may be jobs that Americans won't do for a particular wage, but then the fact that no one would do them would drive up the wage until someone would. By having jobs that someone will do for three bucks per hour (illegal immigrants) you have jobs Americans can't do. Allowing this sort of illegal immigration (as opposed to increased levels of legal immigration) helps artificially deflate the natural wage of various jobs. "They do jobs Americans won't do" is a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Having done a number of those jobs I also find it somewhat insulting.

well said....but as the old saw goes- "if one says it often enough ..."

the media has beaten this drum to death.

I also find it ironic that their are those that beat up the 'government' for allowing their fat cat 'corporate’ donor buddies to “line their pockets” by hiring illegals, then are up in arms when the gov. does come down on them…

I know there are jobs that illegals do that I wouldn't want to do. Roofing in 100 degree weather or picking crops drenched in pesticide.

Does that allow employers the right to employ illegal aliens, just because you don't want to do it?

Moreover if it were a matter of feeding the family and paying the rent or sticking to your guns cause you don't want to do it, which would win in the end. If it is the latter then our welfare system is still too lenient because I would hate to have to pay for your benifits because of you not wanting to do a job that is available

Agreed, an over-abundance of pride has weakened people in that regard. They say arrogance is the last step before the fall.

Prior to Katrina, the roofers in my area were mostly Americans and not only did they work in 100 degree weather but add another 25-50 degrees on the rooftop. The pay was good so these guys did it WITHOUT the help of illegals.

Come to think of it, I had some roofing done a couple of months ago, by Americans. Admittedly it was less hot here, still warm and very high.

An accurate saying would be "working for employers that Americans won't work for".
