Why wouldn't Stockholm Syndrome fit?

The Stockholm syndrome is a psychological response sometimes seen in an abducted hostage, in which the hostage exhibits loyalty to the hostage-taker, in spite of the danger (or at least risk) in which the hostage has been placed.

According to the psychoanalytic view of the syndrome, the tendency might well be the result of employing the strategy evolved by newborn babies to form an emotional attachment to the nearest powerful adult in order to maximize the probability that this adult will enable - at the very least - the survival of the child, if not also prove to be a good parental figure. This syndrome is considered a prime example for the defense mechanism of identification.

In my opinion, it is a made up psychological excuse for many such cases, starting back with Patty Hersch(sp) and the Symbianese Liberation Army. And was later shown
that she did it for the thrills. yeh, she was kidnapped but joined them for the kicks.

But that psychosis has become a common excuse including for Elizabeth Smart. It is much easier than just saying the kids run away from home. I'm not saying this is the case here, but we just don't know YET>

Ref: E Smart-- I didn't say that, but it is possible. and I have plenty of sympathy for kids, but I don't think they are perfect or never make bad judgements. Apparently you do, but as I said, I wait for Evidence before I make judgements. You don't.
