No but I carry a leatherman and I'm not afraid to use it. I actually almost got in line at the airport wearing it the last time I flew - thank God my wife noticed it when we were saying goodbye.

No. People seem more likely to keep their distance when I'm carrying a katana. Walking around with a rusty machete in my hand and a crazed look in my eyes works pretty well, too.

Do knives count? I mean pistols and such are simply not carried here, if one wants to arm him/hersels, one takes a puukko-knife, out of sight, of course.

You probably won't LIVE on a campus for TOO long (unless you plan to work for a place like Sandia labs or something).

Campuses DO have shooting clubs and/or rifle marksmanship classes though.

The carry requirements vary from state to state. Purchase requirements are pretty uniform.

If you are a legal resident alien, you can purchase a firearm. In some states, there is a residency time requirement as well, but it is usually short.

You could legally own a handgun upto the Dunblane massacre a few years ago, after which they were banned. Actually thats not totally true you can still own blackpowder handguns. It's sad but true that Britains only two multiple gun killings were both carried out with legally owned firearms.*

When I was in college, I had a job delivering beer in the inner-city. A means of defense was virtually a prerequisite.

These days, I fly so much & the TSA sort of frowns on bringing a weapon to the airport, so no, I don't carry weapons with me.

Could ordinary people purchase all kinds of handguns they wanted before that point?

Should all registrated gun owners return their guns again after the massacre?
