I would never kill someone in a situation like this unless I had to to stop them from killing me or some other innocent person. And if they were, you bet I'd kill them if I had to.
Same here, although if the person died, I'd be cool with that.

And remember, when aiming your weapon to "stop" the assailant, it's best to aim for a "double tap, center mass", which means two shots to the chest. With the weapon I carry, if a guy lives through that, he deserves to...

A mugger with a knife would most likely run away when you show him las pistola.

I thought that it was very hard to get a carry permit in California, but I guess it depends on where you live.

No shit.

If you DONT show him a gun though, you get mugged and/or stabbed.

Of course there are those people who believe that a dead woman raped and strangled with her own panties is morally superior to a live woman with a gun standing over a dead rapist. These are the same idiots who believe that violence never solved anything and killing is always wrong.

I don't have a permit.

But I'd rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6...

What penalty would you get if you get caught?

The maximum penalty is county jail for one year.

I have no criminal record, so I hardly worry that I would get that. It's important to know, though, that if I felt the need to draw my weapon, somebody's getting shot. If I believe my life is endangered to the point I feel compelled to draw my weapon, than it's a situation where I've decided than any duration of imprisonment is runs a distant "second" to the alternative...

I thats the way you feel then you probably live the wrong place, and should therefore move to one of the "shoot first and ask questions later" states. If you shoot a couple of muggers (armed or not) dead in self defence, then I could suspect a jury in California to see you as a much bigger menace to society than your attackers....and put you away forever.

Re: Do You Carry A Gun?

Btw, did the guy who shot a boy dead on the sidewalk because he egged his car have a carry permit, and what sentence did he get?

If my being able to legally shoot someone was paramount, I would. I've drawn my weapon once, and I wasn't in California when I did it...

You can suspect whatever you want. If a jury were to decide that my killing someone who threatened my life warranted my being imprisoned for life, I'd accept that. I really, really doubt that would happen.

As an example, look at the Bernhard Goetz case in New York City. He was found guilty of criminal possesion of a concealed weapon. He was also charged with attempted murder and assault. He spent, if I recall, a year in jail.

He shot four people...

I have no idea what you're talking about, but you're not talking about a situation I would put myself in. If I believe my life, or the life of another, is in danger, I'll draw my weapon.

I sure as Hell wouldn't do it because someone egged my car...

Unless the pistol is concealed and the mugger is aware of the 21' rule well known in police training. A normal sized mugger can cover 21' in 1.5 seconds.

If you have a concealed handgun and you are very well trained in a quick draw, you can likely draw and fire your weapon in a 1.2-to-1.4 seconds. Sounds good until the reaction time of .5 seconds is added on, resulting in 1.7-to-1.9 seconds.

Most civilians with concealed handguns are fooling themselves about being able to get the best of a knife wielding assailant. That's one reason uniformed cops have open holstered service weapons and many off-duty officers carry smaller than duty weapons that fit in concealed front carry positions to beat the 21' rule.

Civilians who don't adopt such techniques would still be attempting to get that fancy nine or whatever out of a hip or lower back carry after pulling up the clothing that conceals it while they're already losing body fluids.

Why not just apply for a permit?

I was not talking about you at all. It was from a thread in this forum called "Dumbass deserved death", or something. So I wondered if anyone knew about the guy who did it.
