Re: Do You Carry A Gun?

Am I the only one that finds it laughable that some guys talk so tough about their guns? The machismo is almost embarrassing. As Shrek said, "I wonder if he's compensating for something."

My best friend is DEA. Undercover, looks like a prototypical biker. His favorite line is from some old rap song. Something like "a cop w/his gun is just a sucker in a suit waiting to get shot." I think carrying a gun on one's self will likely only lead to trouble. In fact, I once read a statistic that homeowners who keep a gun under the roof are more likely to be shot themselves than are homeowners sans the hand-cannon.

I know it's hard for you to accept that there are people in this world who aren't pussies, and who are completely comfortable defending themselves.

If you don't have a gun, that's probably for the best...

Re: Do You Carry A Gun?

Homeowners getting shot probably comes either from inexperience or failure to have the weapon either locked up or close at hand. If it isn't in a safe or something with a heavy lock, keep it near you so someone else doesn't get to it first. Every gun owner should be experienced with their weapon and be able to shoot well.

And someone who cooks all their meals at home is more likely to burn their house to the ground than someone who eats out for every meal.

That statement is as meaningful as yours...

No, yours is ridiculous. Mine is a verifiable fact.

No, I have guns. I just don't go on message boards with my chest all puffed out to compensate for areas that might be lacking.

And watch who you're calling a pussy, Mr. Kettle.

Many people are gun enthusiasts. You can't deny that there is a sort of beauty with the power and simplicity of a firearm. That truly captivates some people. A friend of mine spends nearly every spare dime he has on adding to his collection of assault style weapons. The way he talks about guns may make him come off as a loony, but the depth of his knowledge is truly astounding. His goal is to start a friendly gun store because he is sick of walking into stores and being treated like a moron despite the fact that he knows more about firearms than nearly everyone.

A gun leading to trouble depends entirely on the owner. In the home, it should either be properly stored or in a place that would make it impossible for anyone to access it before you. Other family members should either be trained in gun safety and use (if mature enough) or taught to never touch it (in the case of very young children. Of course home invasions are extremely rare and most robbers would be scared off at any sign of the homeowners being home. A dog would probably scare off the rest.

My feeling is that if a person feels at all different when armed, they probably shouldn't be carrying. It shouldn't change ones attitude because a gun is simply a tool, not something that makes a person stronger or more dangerous.

I cannot disagree with anything you've stated.

Thank you for checking the machismo at the door. It gets old after the first post. My whole point in posting is that some people should leave the tough talk to the Dirty Harry movies, because that shit don't sell in Peoria.

You know, maybe we could discuss crochet techniques so you can take part. Or maybe "make-up" basics.

I think it's funny that people can't discuss guns without some liberal whiner accusing them of being "puffed up"...

What areas am I "compensating" for?

Hell, I just like guns.

So can all manner of items. The human body is remarkably frail.

Perhaps some do, but i doubt most people interpreted that statement as anything but a blank expression of fact.

Nobody was talking tough. You're interpreting it that way..

By the way - Shrek is merely an animated cartoon character. Sigmund Freud said that fear of weapons was a sign of sexual immaturity and insecurity. Guess who's psychological analysis I give more weight to?

That would be the Kellerman study, and it has been discredited by even Kellerman himself.

Actually no it ISNT fact. Kellerman himself recanted the results of that study as it was fatally flawed. The only people still quoting it are those who have no interest in having a serious debate on this topic.

No one is puffing their chest. Statements of fact are just that - statements of fact. If you feel intimidated, thats your problem.
