No, "inappropriate" would be if I pulled my CZ and aerated his head.

You know, in all of my training, I've never been told that carrying a gun means you have to be a "role model"....
Giving him an extra nostril in the center of his forehead MIGHT be a bit over the top.

I say MIGHT, because the person doing the spitting may be one of 4-5 guys obviously intent upon doing you harm.

Like i said to Wallaroo - the circumstances would dictate the response.

I absolutely agree. Then again, I never said I would do that.

According to Wallaroo, any response by me would, apparently, be "inappropriate". I'm real interested to hear what an "appropriate" response would be.

Because, frankly, I'd hammer the guy in the chops as hard as I could...

I've been in a situation like that, and I certainly didn't wait until they got within spittin' distance to draw my weapon...

I'm going to guess that, for Wallaroo, the circumstances wouldn't. According to Wallaroo, if someone has a gun, but reacts to a situation without using the gun, that's inappropriate.

That's fucking retarded...

that has to be the stupidest post I have seen on any forum to date.

that response o someone spitting on myself or my child would be appropriate and mild .

the fact is proportional response ( that is swift effecting and while not weak , not excessive) is perfectly acceptable.

That is an excellent role model as far as I am concerned , not that I or anyone who carries has to be a role model.

the person who spit in that example should be thankful for just getting their ass kicked .

Of course, if he's carrying, once you reach for your weapon, he's free to open fire on you, after all you are threatening him with deadly force.

Re: Do You Carry A Gun?

No, and I have never owned a gun either.

I specifically recall the last time I ever carried a gun.

It was around Thanksgiving, 1965 or 1966.

I was visiting friends in a rural cabin on a frozen lake
in New Hampshire.

It was so remore we could play with shotguns,
firing them over the ice, and no neighbors were
near enough to complain.

Then we went deer hunting, and it was tremendously
exciting even though all we saw were deer tracks
and droppings.

Lucky no one else was around because I at least
was trigger happy.

I fired only once, but only because I wanted to
kill something.

I maimed a squirrel, and I can still see it hobbling
away wounded to die. That took away forever
my desire to hunt, although I am in favor of
responsible hunting.

As far as gun law goes, there are almost as many
privately owned guns in the US as there are people,
so any attempt to eliminate private possession is
ipso facto bound to fail.

I still think we should continue to make it illegal for
violent criminals to own guns, but anyone who wants
a gun badly enough is always going to be able to get one,
and we are going to have to live with it.

Apparently you cannot read, or at least are incapable of comprehending the words.

What he said was, drawing the gun would be an INAPPROPRIATE response - meaning it isn't the response he would take.

But hey, go ahead and intentionally pervert that into implying that he said it was OK to shoot him.

Comprehend much?

I've taken the position that I wouldn't do that. Wallaroo says that hitting someone for spitting on my daughter would be "inappropriate" if I was wearing my gun.

Considering that we're all in agreement that shooting the guy would be inappropriate, I'm simply wondering what the appropriate course of action would be...

A severe thumping and a lot of work for the local oral surgeon...

since you used the term playing and shotgun in the same sentence , I am very glad you no longer have anything to do with firearms because you obviously have no idea that they are NOT toys .

I’m actually wondering what Wallaroo thinks would be an “appropriate”.

Since he hasn’t posted that reason yet, I can only conclude that, under similar circumstances, Wallaroo would politely ask the offender to stop spitting…

Oh thank you for the cute little speech.

The fact is that on that Thanksgiving day those shotguns
WERE toys, if dangerous ones, something along the lines
of fireworks. There was a flat field of fire with absolutely no
cover (it was all lake ice) and probably over a mile of visibility,
so there was no chance of anyone getting hurt.

During the later hunting episode, although I was, as I have
admitted, trigger happy, I knew what I was shooting at, and
the target was high up in a tree, so there was little liklihood
of hitting anything I did not want to hit. What bothers me is
the quesion of whether I might shot carelessly if the target
had been near the base of the tree, or on the ground.

Were I to obtain a gun now, I would of course not use it
as a toy, unless I find myself back at that NH lake in the
winter. I am aware of the fact that rifle bullets may ricochet
off even liquid water, so I would stick to shotguns and save
any rifle for game, under the guidance of an experienced hunter.

Bullshit.

The only way to ensure that nobody could get hurt would be to keep the guns unloaded. Anytime a gun is loaded, the odds of it hurting someone increase exponentially.

I love your attitude, though; thinking that a lot of ice and visibility precludes someone getting hurt.

I, too, believe it's probably a good thing that you don;t "play" with guns anymore...

Bullshit yourself.

I said we were shooting over a mile of lake ice,
and it might have been two miles. What is the
maximum range of a shotgun?- 1/10 mile?

Are you seriously trying to say that what we were
doing was unsafe, or are you just here to enjoy the
sound of your own screeching?

I enjoyed the play, but not so much that I have
had much urge to do it again...

...At least until I realized how some people in these
chatrooms could use a cartridgeload of rubber buckshot
right where the sun don't shine.

Give 'em a real reason to screech.

You said you were "playing" with shotguns.

If a gun is loaded, it's not something to be "played" with. A responsible adult wouldn't use that word when describing what was being done.

So, you're what; 12? Maybe 15?
