Edinburgh city centre is really safe!! When were you last there? I was there 2 weeks ago for 4 days in the Radisson SAS on the Royal Mile. It's fantastic fun and there is no danger at all there, it's totally covered by CCTV and police security. Plus you cannot move for tourists, there are few actual Scots even working there, it's peopled by foreign students doing work experience. Very entertaining as it happens and the shops on Princes Street are wonderful...

I think again, you're talking about pockets of violent areas.

I am only recently back in the forum and don't know the normal debating procedures, but is it really acceptable to call someone stupid because they have a different opinion?

Thank you for taking the time to research that. We have discussed the qualifications behind those figures in so much as there is an established drug culture here and there is a great deal of violence within that culture.

It is not the most violent btw. I think it was around third in Europe in the last stats.

No, it's not acceptable.

Then again, that's not what I did.

I called your opinion stupid, especially considering that I told you of my personal experience which pretty much proves your statement to be incorrect.

You made the statement that there is no need to be afraid when the people beside you have no gun. As I've described, our assailants didn't have guns. Still, there was a definite cause to fear them.

Gosh, how can that be possible?

You asked why we carry guns.

I carry a gun because, here, there are people who, sometimes, need to be defended against.

Again, it's becoming clear that you don't care about the reasons we do it. Your question, therefore, was intellectually dishonest.

You seem sane enough, so I hope intellectual dishonesty doesn't prove to be a trend with you...
You have answered my question long ago and that is an acceptable answer.
Your opinion of me is not relevant I think, as we are here to discuss issues not posters. But I am an honest person. Sometimes we react to other posters, but I try to be direct.

I've learned that those who aren't wrapped real tight tend to discuss issues in the most illogical manner.

Like I said, you seem to be pretty sane.

Right now...

Actually had logged out because the heat was getting too much for me, but you drew me back in with that one...just to say g'night...

Is there really nobody else here who doesn't think guns are a good thing? It was like 5 against 1 there for a while and I am a girl...

What does being a girl have to do with it?

My wife and my 22 year old daughter are both very proficient with a handgun, and they both realize the importance of being able to provide for their own safety should the need ever arise...

Nothing, apparently...

You have a different way of looking at things. I would worry about safety if I had a gun in the house.

Yes. It's widely referred to as "realistic"...

You shouldn't have to.

I've had guns in my house for the last 27 years. My daughter grew up with them in the house. When she got old enough, she was taught how to use them, how not to use them, and to respect what they could do.

The only person who'd have to worry about "safety" in my home would be the unfortunate sap who would break into my home in the middle of the night...

That is a good deal Steve. I have also spent more on a shoulder holster than the cost of a hi-point.

It brings me back to when my buddy was awfully proud of the one he picked up for $140 or so, giving me a hard time about the roughly 500 I dropped for a glock. Before he had fired a single round with it, he managed to break the slide lock lever.

I nearly bought a Kimber rifle two years ago. I went with a Tikka instead and I dont regret it. I am more into high end shotguns than anything though.

Kimber is a high-end manufacturer - semi-custom stuff.

My Kimber 1911 has been rock-solid and reliable. If I had to defend myself with a pistol, I'd not feel at all under-gunned with it.

Re: Do You Carry A Gun?

I am totally in agreement with Scotlandforever on this matter. You carry a gun? So fucking what?

Can you justify that? As in you may have shoot wolf or a bear?

Can you justify, in any way your reasons for carrying a short arm instead of a rifle or shotgun?

Does it make you feel manly, safe, or adequate?
