You're catching on - it is not the implement, but the criminal that must be banned.

Re: Do You Carry A Gun?

Any minute now we're going to reach a point of understanding.

I think that will be a first in the history of discussion forums on the internet.

And I'm not kidding.

Re: Do You Carry A Gun?

As to the question "I don't carry a gun now but considering doing so" Why?

Prior to the early 1900's everyone carried a six-gun or rifle, some call it the Wild West etc. Why did they do so? Because there were a lot of Bad guys out there (bad guys always have guns) and they needed to protect themselves, family and property.

Now were in the 21st century and there even more bad guys out there and we still need to protect ourselves, family and property because no one else will.

It takes minutes for the police to respond but only seconds for a life threatening situation to develop. Oh I know tell the bad guy the cops are coming that will help! Besides the constitution says we have the right to bear arms, why? Because they know the police, government, army, or anyone else CAN'T protect its citizens from an immediate threat.

In another reply I stated that since the Iraq war some 3500 US military personnel have lost their lives while during the same there have been 55,000 murders in the USA. Now every solider carries a weapon because Iraq is a dangerous place, I suggest that if every American carried a weapon the murder rate would be drastically reduced because the playing field would be leveled and these Bad guys, punks and low life that take advantage of honest citizens would think twice if they knew we might just shoot back. Get a gun!

Just my opinion,
Disgusted

1. Not as reliable as a firearm.
2. Near useless against 2 or more assailants.

If there were a reliable, non-lethal alternative to a firearm, I'd happily carry it instead.

You'll note the title of the thread is not " do you carry a backpack bomb ? "
So if people are killed by bombs or knives, thats ok with you, just as long as there were no guns involved?

Re: Do You Carry A Gun?

Ah this thread reminded me of this video.

YouTube - hicks versus bmw

Cliff notes: BMW cuts off 2 redneck in a truck. Redneck truck follow BMW guy filming everything. Words exchanged. BMW leads them to a dead end road. BMW guy pulls out gun...takes rednecks camera and keys. BMW guy leaves.

This all escalates from someone getting cut off. I guess one could argue that the situation got so escalated because the guy in the BMW had a gun. Maybe if he didn't have a gun he flips them off and they all go on with life...maybe. Does the mindset of having a gun put the victim in a much more offensive mindset?

I have never carried or owned a gun, but have been thinking about it lately. Not sure if I would actually be any safer, but I would feel safer knowing I had the means to protect myself if I or someone I know was being attacked. I have nothing against or think it's wrong for people to carry guns. My main concern is the mindset of a person carrying a gun.

IIRC, that video is a documented hoax. Completely staged.

As far as mindset goes, I find I am more polite to others when I am carrying.

Re: Do You Carry A Gun?

I don't carry one regularly and wouldn't if I could. I just can't think of a reason to use it on a daily basis.

I do have one at home and will use it if someone threatens me or my family. The penalty for entering my home illegally is a couple shots to the torso which might equate to death.

That’s not what he said, and I don’t believe that’s what he means. I think your assumption is in error.

The London bombing illustrates that the ban doesn’t solve the problem; in fact it may exacerbate it. Do you believe the assailants could have done as much damage if they had used guns, particularly handguns, instead of bombs???

Re: Do You Carry A Gun?

Yes.

I carry anywhere I go where carrying is not specifically prohibited. I have permits in two states that are recognized in several other states. I rarely go anywhere that one associates with needing a gun but even Wal-Marts can have predators cruising the parking lots looking for prey.

I am of the opinion that a person who has reached the age where getting a permit is possible and has not done anything that prevents him from qualifying for a permit is a demonstrated good citizen.

I believe people who for some reason have one non-violent felony conviction should be able to seek approval from the courts for carry permits after 5 years with no additional convictions.

I think a person who qualifies for a gun permit has as much right to carry the gun in any state as he has to drive in any state with one state's driving license.

I don't have a pistola in the waistband of my jockeys. However, I do find it necessary to carry a small nuclear device in my backpack. You never know when you might wanna become a mushroom-cloud laying mother-fucker. (to quote Jules)

A person could actually have some fun with one of those. It's much better to shock the shit out of someone than simply kill them, IMO.
