Look up the statistics on crime committed by people who have concealed carry licenses. No matter how you massage the numbers, you will not find a group of more law-abiding people. Here is a snippet that will help a bit, from the LA Times.

I have made it very clear that the laws in the state of Texas allow me to use deadly force if i deem it necessary to stop a threat. Im not afraid of guns - I have a revolver myself (altough its broken now) and a rifle too. I have used shotguns both for fun and hunting since age 13.

What I said was in response to Matt who automatically assumed that almost all permit holders would do anything possible to de-escelate a potential dangerous sitouation, which I find to be extremely naive at best.
