Another drug discussion thread

Just another drug discussion thread. Continuing from another thread.

1. Well, the guy you mentioned that caused the deaths of a mother and three children was born at some point, correct? Had he not been born, he would not have been able to commit those actions, correct? Isn't that the reasoning you use to connect it to drug use?

2. Like I said, someone could also have offered him alcohol, cigarettes, a McDonald's hamburger or motor oil. Should we ban those as well?

3. Drugs don't cause those conditions, people do. There are functioning alcoholics, you know. Also, functioning tobacco users. And functioning cocaine users. The conditions you are referring to are probably those of mobsters who sell drugs and shoot people up. Well, that happens BECAUSE DRUGS ARE ILLEGAL!

I agree that it is people that cause the problems, but to ignore that drugs are but a tool of those actions is ridiculous IMO.

Even if drugs were legal, we'd still have people doing things that they'd normally wouldn't do, while using drugs. Therefore drugs are not victimless.

I'm a strong advocate to gun ownership; but at times they are used to do wrong, so therefore they are not victimless.

So would you also like to ban alcohol, cars and guns?

Just like alcohol, guns, and almost anything else.

Drug USE is victimless. You are saying "using drugs and then KILLING SOMEONE is not victimless, therefore using drugs has victims." This is not a rational way to look at it. You could then say that everything is victimful.

Did I say ban drugs? All I said was that they ARE NOT victimless.

I can't make heads or heals out of your second paragraph.

Say I just smoked marijuana. Who is the victim?

You are trying to say that drugs have victims because someone can harm someone else while using them. Well, this is true for almost all substances. The point is that the harming is what causes the harm, not the drug use that came before it.
