Re: Time to admit the 'gun nuts' are right

Sam Ervin said, "The Constitution should be taken like mountain whiskey -- undiluted and untaxed."

mmmmmmmmmm whiskey
I have had the homemade untaxed variety of whiskey. Tis very good.
I like to read a magazine called Backwoods Home or Backwoods something or other. It has great homesteading stuff about hunting and trapping and foraging. It also talks about how we need guns and militias to protect us against the coming left-wing takeover. I agree with those articles. I just substitute a couple words in my head. To me, I need guns and militia to protect us from the coming right-wing religious takeover.

If you want to avoid the religious right just go to any big city in the US, you won't be able to spot anything even remotely right of center for miles in every direction.

No it's not. The various proclamations that the freedom sky is falling are well off the mark, but the GOP Is still infringing on our rights even if it is at a slower pace than the Democrats.
While I agree that the Republican party sells out its principles on a far to regular basis I don't believe that the statement "actively limited many of the rights of the citizens" is a correct assesment of these occasional sell outs, especially if you look at the party as a whole instead of just individual examples.

I'm just wondering whether hardened pro-gun rights members still support the GOP, or are more inclined to support another party such as the Libertarians?
Libertarians are what Republicrats are supposed to be...
The problem is right now the Republican party has a lot more clout therefore the switchover is going slow.

Re: Time to admit the 'gun nuts' are right

While there are alot of things I like about the libertarian party it does have some flaws, specifically the one tract mind when it comes to dismantaling current drug laws. While I wouldn't mind legalizing drugs, I would place a priority on dismantaling the welfare state before making that move.

After all the last thing I want is for my tax dollars to go to supporting a bunch of drug addicted losers.

Crime is highest here including homocides. You need to protect yourself from that.
When you consider safety of other countries, where guns are banned and crime is low, it is difficult to say that having guns means safer countries.
In essence, only criminals own guns in those countries.
Huh!??????

Frankly, I'm a little tired of being called a gun nut. I prefer "gun enthusiast." Now, what am I right about?

What about: Patriot, Lover of Freedom, Servant of the Constitution, Exercisor (is that even a word?!) of Common Sense, or Champion of Democracy?
