Is saying the commercials are "no big deal" the same as "cheering" them?

It's fine to question the government. But to do that in lieu of being prepared is stupid and irresponsible.

Nothin' wrong with doing both...

Batteries?

Pretty much so. A waste of effort in either instance as the problem isn't being resolved.

Again, what can the average metropolitan person do to prepare for a potential terrorist attack other than rely on preparation for a natural disaster? Evasion is out of the question due to the mere thought of everyone climbing into a vehicle at the same time. They're either prepared for a natural disaster or not and warning them of a potential terrorist attack isn't going to change Joe Sixpack's state of preparation. No TV would probably be the biggest disaster imaginable for many Americans.

Oh, I disagree.

I know people who don't believe they'll ever be affected by a natural disaster, yet who are absolutely petrified at the thought of a terrorist attack.

If suggesting that they get ready for a terrorist attack spurs them to be "prepared", which would therefore prepare them for a natural disaster, that's not a bad thing...

Seems like sleazy motivation, but if they're that ignorant about what creates a natural disaster and what causes a terrorist attack they'll probably panic regardless of preparation. I suggest shooting them at the first sign of any emergency to eliminate their potential of compounding the crisis status of any disaster.

Re: Good idea or American style propaganda?

Steve, since I relied on an electric pump to supply running water in normal circumstances (having my own water supply) it meant we were without water during the blackout. Since then I have remedied the situation by installing a gravity fed system. I have also addressed some other problems that came up during that time.

I still however don't necessarily think that these changes would be sufficient for me to last indefinitely in the event of a major catastrophe.
