Re: Interesting illegal immigration dilemma
He should do his jail term and be shipped out.
Immigrants--love them, they're the basis of our country and should be welcomed with open arms. The process should be speedy and fairly simple. Illigal Immigrants--They're breaking our laws and should be thrown out of the country, period. Current do-nothingness about the situation by our Government--Unfortunate, but in such a case we should be abiding the current laws, not ignoring them. If I were POTUS--I'd suggest the states mobilize their law enforcements to check papers and turn illegals over. If localities didn't comply, I'd assign an enormous amount of FBI task forces to do the job. There are millions of illegal immigrants and they all need to be booted out of the country. No ifs, ands, or buts. I wouldn't build a wall, all the illegals would already be out of the country and the new policy would be to boot them when found. I might increase border patrols if the problem continued. No Amnesty--Reagan did that and it didn't work, I'll not perpetuate the "20 years...amnesty...20 years...amnesty" policy failure. Concurrently, I'd completely redo the INS, greatly increasing its efficiency and manpower and quotas to allow more legal immigrants to come in and make their citizenship as quick as they're able to pass the test. The INS wouldn't be a second-rate POS agency that drives immigrants out or influences their illegal status. |

Re: Interesting illegal immigration dilemma
What should have happened is to set up a sting of sorts where an unknown person threatened to blackmail him about his status unless he did something that involved abusing his position. If he caved, lock him up and ship him out, because he was a security risk waiting to happen. If he came forward, put him on some sort of fast-track to citizenship, as he's a better American than most 'real' Americans.
As the situation stands now, he should get probation and deportation. And possibly an in-depth background check, which, if he passes with flying colors, should lead to some sort of dispensation to facilitate/hasten his return as a legal immigrant. If he's not the saint the article makes him out to be, then so be it.

Re: Interesting illegal immigration dilemma
This guy is clearly an upstanding member of the community and should have his citizenship fast tracked. On the other hand, he did defraud the state of Wisconsin(or city of Milwaukee; my understanding on what it takes to become a cop says both) so he should never be allowed to serve in LE again.
