i've read often on these here forums that an armed society is a polite one, and i think thar may be a degree 'o truth to this (though it is also could be said that an armed society is a dangerous one, if it loses its temper).

wouldnt an openly worn shotgun, or handgun, be more effective in keeping evil pirates at bay, if the weapon were displayed openly?

fer example;
i used to do a bit 'o coaching in youth soccer when i was a lad meself, and saw some pretty heated and irate parents on them sidelines during games.
never saw any fist fights among them spirited moms and dads, but these parents often seemed to be on the verge 'o coming to blows.

if each parent had a big weapon displayed openly on their hip, or a shotgun slung o'er their shoulder, don't you think them guns woulda encouraged a more civilized exchange?

or, to take a broader view 'o things....whats the point of a nation having nuclear weapons if no one knows you got'm?

aye?

I'm laughing at the thought of a soccer mom showing up at a game with a .44Mag strapped on her designer clad hip. Not to downplay the importance of your coaching duties or point, but those people are generally so shallow and dedicated to style every gun shop in America would be sold out in a matter of hours just to 'keep up with the Jones'. Would they all buy ammunition?

hail Americano!!!!!

i think that, in time, if it became the norm fer folks to openly carry guns into supermarkets, their local parks, disneyland (pirates of the carribean ride, YARRR!), that them firearms would eventually become fashion accessories also.

i.e. - holster by Coach (buttery soft leather, that ages attractively!)
i.e. - revolver by Bannana Republic (urban and understated in design, sexy!)
i.e. - gun permit tag by Tumi (snaps right on to your carry on luggage!)
i.e. - .9mm automatic by Apple (aye....you guessed it, the sophisticated and all-white, Igun!)

its really not that hard to picture, matey.

And I could be wrong about this, but I thought it was against the law to carry a weapon into a bank or Gov. building
In Texas , a concealed carry permit means just that.........concealed. Carrying a handgun out in the open is prohibited by law, and they will revoke you license for doing so.

And in Idaho, you can carry out in the open without a permit, all you need is a gun. But you need a license to carry concealed. And said license is staggeringly easy to obtain, if you have a bit of patience and $55 (I ought to know, I've got a license and so does my wife).

This is one great concept. Does this mean I will finally get to have different holsters that match different belt-and-shoes combinations? Because the black leather holster just doesn't go with the pink oxford and khakis unless I wear a black bealt and shoes. But I think that outfit would look smarter with a brown belt and shoes....

You'd get no arguments from me about that, but unfortunately, a lot of people get nervous when someone other than a cop is carrying openly. Why, i dont know, but they do. I guess they think the mean evil gun will just jump out of the holster and start shooting people.

It is against the law to carry into most government buildings, but not all. Banks are not automatically illegal either. Has a lot to do with the municipality in question.

Re: Obama wants national ban on concealed carry

I think the concealment aspect of carrying a weapon would be more effective than strappin' on the old six-shooters. If I decided to stick up a convenience store, if I'm not damned sure one of the group of strangers in that store ISN'T carrying, I might be in for trouble big. If I DO see Wyatt Earp in there, and knowing he isn't expecting me to pull out a gun, once I deal with him I have a better chance of getting away with it.
The person who intends to USE the gun usually gets the drop on whoever simply WEARS it.

I say keep them well hidden.

Unfortunatly, a revolver is a semi-automatic weapon. One trigger pull, one round, without the need to reload between each shot.

Not necessarily. It has to do with the need to re-cock the hammer between shots.

Mine doesn't have to be cocked.
